Dungeon Colony is a 2D fantasy real-time strategy game in which you take control over a Dungeon Lord and his loyal Minions to explore and build a Dungeon and save your colony from the brink of extinction. Command your Minions to dig out tunnels and rooms, craft items from resources they collect, and set up traps to defend your new home against greedy heroes. The mountain harnesses powerful magic that has the potential to give you control over the lands around you. But it's up to you to uncover its secrets before you are overrun by your enemies.

Completes the first round of Economy features that govern how minions perform work for your master.

Hello Minions!

Version 0.2.8.0 is out and Dungeon Colony is getting mighty close to Beta status. This version completes the first Economy Update.

The new economy system is tied into the new room features introduced in version 0.2.7.x. At the moment, there are 3 base rooms available: The lair, the cantina and the treasury. Minions sleep in their lair and store goods such as gold coins and other items. For each command you issue to a minion, he will want to get paid for it. After a certain amount of work performed, the minion will go to the treasury to get his wage. He will then bring his wage to his room and store it in a chest. If a minion doesn't have a room or a chest, he will complain to his master about it.

Minions use their earned wage to buy food. You must have a Cantina available and place a dining table inside it. That way, your minions know where to go to buy and eat food to replenish their health and fill up their belly. Coins spend on food are transferred back into the treasury.

This creates the foundation for the dungeon economy and a circular transaction system that provides a way for your minions to work for their needs. Future releases will introduce new rooms and new desires for your minions to spend their wage on, such as potions that they can use when under attack, weapons to improve fighting enemies, or other items to improve their skills.

With Economy 1.0 completed, I'm turning my focus back to the Campaign game mode to work on Level design and polish the engine for Beta release.

Yes, they will each have their own inventory inside their room. For now, that means that they store their gold there. Later I will give them the ability to store other belongings.

Nice, would really like to know how you imagine all that item system
There will be some forge? Loot? Some artifacts? Drop from heroes invading your dung? Stats of crafted item depending on some crafting skill or material or both?

Yes, yes yes, yes and not yet :-P... Actually a lot of that is already built. So you can craft various items using the resources collected by your minions. There is a crafting bench where you can craft these items. The Dungeon Master can research new crafting recipes that you can later build. There is a furnace where you can transform raw resources into other building materials (e.g. sand to glas bottles, iron ore to metal rods and steel. The Steel can be used for new traps, reinforced doors and chests (and weapons in the future). There is a alchemist table where you can make potions that depend on resources like mushrooms that you can collect. Enemies that come raid the dungeon drop loot such as food, gold and other items.

The only thing that isn't in the game that you mention is crafting based on skill or material type. This is something i'm going to add down the line, when the engine is more robust.

I have the latest version(0.2.8.5), but whilst playing sandbox I do not see the icon to create rooms, is this normal?

Yes, that's correct. I added a new switch to turn Rooms on/off. I need to update the quests in the Sandbox mode to include the rooms. It will take me some extra time to do so, so for now I've turned them off in sandbox mode until that's finished.

Really looking forward to try this out! Nice, that you built a base structure you can adapt later on. Great work!
