Two years after the incident on Mars, research has resumed, led by Dr. Elizabeth McNeil. Once more, strange occurrences haunt the facility. A search team breaks into a chamber deep within Mars, finding the Artifact — a weapon from Hell that the Ancients sealed away long ago. The lead Marine, upon touching the Artifact, awakens it, the blast wave killing his team and reaching into Hell, alerting the Maledict (Dr. Betruger’s new form). The Maledict sends the three Hunters to retrieve the Artifact. Meanwhile, Hell begins to invade Mars once again.

Doom 3 Automatic Map Builder is a tool that helps you create playable map layouts within a matter of minutes, so you can get right into the nitty gritty of real mapping, detailing, entity placement, etc... and skip the tedious work of manually blocking out maps within bulky Doom3Edit.

With D3AMB you can sketch out multiple floors of your map in a grid like environment. You can automatically place lights, entities such as monsters or models, have D3AMB place columns for you and even doors and visportals are automatically created if you want.

Using D3AMB you can create intricate block outs for your maps as starting point, you don't have to be afraid of ending up with an unstructured workflow as your maplayout will be consistent throughout the map.

You can use D3AMB to experiment with a diverse set of abstract maps as well. It can deliver fully playable maps by featuring entity placement. So you can create a map from scratch that's playable from beginning to end.

This is an Alpha version. This means that NOT ALL features might work, might work as predicted, or might cause error messages. If you do receive an error message then press 'continue', save your work under a different name as quickly as possible and restart D3AMB.

very nice such a easy to use map editor for "noobs".
I mean, "real" level designers will not use this because its not really very helpfull to build really good looking levels. But for those who want to create a level in an hour or so its a great tool.

interesting stuff!

Sorry but I disagree strongly with you. As a level designer, stemming from the Doom 1 period, I use this tool to block out my maps before proceeding with the detailing phase, granting me many hours of work that I would have otherwise spent on blocking out the map.

Indeed, very intricate (and large) block-out designs are possible with this level editor as I've seen with my own eyes.

I'm also a level designer and you can come up with some quality work in the shortest time possible when using this little beauty. An absolute must have for any idtech4 mapper. Cuts layout phase into a few minutes rather than a day/week. 5 stars Grimmquest!

I agree with Grimmquest this is really useful to block out maps in an initial building stage when you're still trying to identify the scale of your environment.

I recall that it was called SLIGE. I think the problem was that some Doomers thought that it would be a good idea to churn out SLIGE maps, largely or entirely without modification, and release them. They are frowned upon because you can create similar maps just by downloading and using SLIGE yourself. But maps that use SLIGE as a base and add extra modifications, details etc. are usually accepted because of the fact that a significant amount of extra effort goes into them.
I've booted up the Automatic Map Builder and it makes it clear that it is intended for the latter purpose (although I can see it also being a good standalone method of creating simple shoot-em-up maps in less than an hour, for those who like that sort of thing). It's looking a lot more polished than the previous release, I'll certainly be giving it a try over the next few days.

There's a better program that surpassed SLIGE, it is called OBLIGE: Oblige.sourceforge.net

this is an automatic map builder wich is cool but is mosty 2d, and the doom editor is kind of crappy compared with other bsp builders

It is created for Doom3, which means you can add multiple floors and export to all 3 dimensions.

The grid interface might be '2d' but you can manage and edit each height level individually, hence both the editor and it's exported products are '3d'. And not 'mostly' 2D.

After the product is exported you can continue editing it with any map editor of your preference.

Not as of yet, it is being worked on.

I am working on an exporter for Quake2 at the moment. When that is finished I will convert it to Q3 format (which is very similar).

I think it is a great tool, it can make mapping easier and less of a struggle, especially for beginners! The only thing that did a little disappoint me, was that the video had only what some may call music, but no cometary of some sort. I think that would have been extra nice to have.

Dear all
do you know if there is a similar app for Android or Apple which allows me to create dungeons or just map layouts simply like this mod? To create corridors and rooms just with my finger (on a tablet).
I'd like to start to design some maps for the upcoming Doom, I think I'll really love the new Snapmap system
Thanks
