Hellfire is the first official Diablo add-on. It is based on the original Diablo code and offers two new dungeons, a new character class, new weapons, armor, spells, potions, monsters, quests, and a number of improvements to the standard Diablo interface. Hellfire runs as an enhancement to the original Diablo, and not as a standalone "mission pack." You'll need the Diablo CD to run the new levels, and it enhances single-player mode only. There is talk of a future multiplayer patch, and although multiplayer hack programs exist, officially this is a single player game only. Hellfire improves the existing Diablo levels, while also adding original areas and items. Players can now select the difficulty level for single-player games. Description

This Hellfire modification has been started in November 1998. It is based upon the famous HFMOD V2 from Varaya and Khan, dated September 2 1998. The reasons we used Varaya and Khan's version to work upon are that it was very well balanced and had a lot of bugfixes and nice enhancements in it. We saw no need to redo all this, mostly because we would not have able to do it at that time. You will be able to play SinglePlayer as well as MultiPlayer. See 'Notes on SinglePlayer' if you like the quests, or plan to do single player games for other reasons. All other information in this file is for both MultiPlayer and SinglePlayer, unless indicated otherwise. This game has been made possible with the help of many people. Ogden will tell you about them when you first enter a game. Special thanks go to ArthurDent, for his suggestions, feedback, making the Guide, being a great co-op partner, and taking care of all image and sound related things. Something seems off with this version. Level 13 is not rotating enemy generation with new games. The Chamber of Bone does not exist. The nest is unbalanced. The Butcher on level 12 is on 'god' mode, and item drops are pitiful or stacked against your character. I have never gotten a good piece of armour for the warrior or a good quality bow for the rogue in the 20 some irragular attempts on this mod over the last 10 years. This is it, I'm finally throwing in the towel.
