The George Romero Riptide Mod was made in honor of George Romero, considered to be the "Father of Zombie Movies". This mod aims to replicate the behaviour of the Romero zombies, which means that zombies are mostly slow and can only be killed by destroying the brain. There are also other optional features included in this mod to satisfy the cravings of Dead Island players.

I. What is the George Romero Mod?
This is a mod named after the "father" of the zombie genre, George Romero. In modern times, there are all sorts of zombies, ranging from the the normal slow shambling types to the more imaginative hybrid zombie types that sometimes are powered by science and technology. The classic Romero zombie is the slow and typically dumb zombie whose only mission is to eat the nearest living flesh available. These Romero zombies don't care if their body parts get chopped off or whether they are headed towards the edge of a building. They will usually head straight towards their victim unless their path is blocked, and that's the only time they would either find another way around or just continue walking forward even though they can't make any progress. This mod aims to get as close as possible to Romero's vision of zombies within the limitations of Dead Island Riptide's design.
II. How to Use
* You must have WinRAR or WinZIP to "extract" the RAR file. *
Installation:
- Go to where you installed Dead Island Riptide.
ex. Dead Island Riptide\DI folder.
- Make a back-up of the file called Data0.pak by right clicking it and choosing Copy.
- Paste the copy and name it something like Data0ORIGINAL.pak so you can revert to the
default way the game is supposed to be played.
- Put the mod inside the DI folder.
ex. DIR_RomeroModv4.rar.
- Right Click on the mod and choose "Extract Here".
- It will ask you to replace Data0.pak, choose to replace it.
- Play the game and have fun!
III. Current Features
- Zombies only die by destroying the head or somehow causing harm to the head.
- Zombies move slower.
- Zombies will usually grab you to try and eat your flesh.
- You can now collect food and drinks instead of using them right away.
- Optional: There is a version that has "Orange" weapons in shops right away.
- Optional: There are different versions that allow you to destroy arms and legs.
IV. Known Issues
- Infected zombies can still sometimes run fast.
- Crippling or cutting off zombie's arms will cause it to just follow you around, unable to grab or hit you.
- There might be times when you won't be able to make progress in a mission because you
are using this (or any other) mod.
V. Troubleshooting
1. I can't progress in a mission while using this mod!
Solution:
- Use the original Data0.pak. Delete or replace the one used by the mod with the original.

yeah can it work for the xbox and if not can you make one that does please
Hi! Thanks for the interest, but I'm not familiar with modding for consoles like Xbox 360 or PS3 and I don't have the necessary hardware for that unfortunately.
Hi, I may have found another bug:
Whenever I dens explosives or throwables, such as mines or flares, all of them are deployed instead of one. It physically only drops one item , but after that all of them are gone from your inventory. For mines you can try to pick it (them) up again and you'll now see in your inventory all your mines but listed as separate objects instead of "25 x Explosive mine" for example.
I also feel more than a few zombies are still going pretty fast...
# using legarmcutshopcollector v5
Thanks, I think I found a fix for the "Use All Throwables" bug, it should be included in the next update :D
As for the other zombies still fast, yeah, it's the same problem as Dead Island 1. Some zombies just refuse to slow down for some reason. A possible solution that I can do is to remove some of the special zombies and just leave the regular ones in the game like I did in the old George Romero mod for the first Dead Island. The downside to this method is that some missions require certain zombies to be killed, otherwise you won't be able to make progress.
I'll just leave this as an extra option in the next update :D

Thanks for the input!
The reason why I packed them all in the Data0.pak archive is that I'm having trouble making my mod work from the usual My Documents/Riptide/Out folder, which strangely worked for the original Dead Island game. I think my hard disk problem might have something to do with this (My pc is already 7 years old, yikes!).
Anyway, I'll go make an easily configurable version later similar to my original George Romero mod for the first Dead Island. It seems that the traditional My Documents/Riptide/Out installation that I used before seems to work for some people, so I'll do this for them :D
I'm also going to check those throwable items and figure out a workaround, have fun for now :)
New update coming in a few hours (or a day). Fixed the new "Use All Throwables" bug and will add the option to remove special zombies from the game. I'll also include the old style installation to the My Document/Riptide/Out folder as another method of using the mod.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and letting me know about the "Use All Throwables" bug! :D
