I have played the game a lot, and I've always gotten crazy jump-scares, even when I knew who the monster was.
However, ever since the phantom has been added, I have not been scared even once. I can't really put my finger on it, but something about it makes it less intimidating. What's more, the see through nature of the monster really adds to this, since you'll slowly start seeing it, and not have that "whoa, it's right there" effect.

I don't know if it's just me, and I'm really sorry that I can't really say anything concrete about this, but I really feel like the phantom has taken the scary out of damned :/

Just my two cents.

Yeah Same, The phantom is not scary at all. No jump scare :(... and + you can walk around him when he's near you without him spotting you, which is even less scary :P

In my mind he's much scarier than the Lurker. The fact that you have to be careful ALWAYS makes it already scary there.

With the Lurker you can sprint around the entire hotel, CONSTANTLY. Speedrunning the game. Phantom denies that in every way.

You're just to tough to play against it, obviously. It's scary for me and my other 4 friends, so we're good and it doesn't need changing in any way :D
Wait for more monsters and see if they're more down your alley. We're enjoying this one :D

I feel like the phantom isn't that scary at all, more he's like a comedic relief now. I was thinking about how to make him scary for the survivors. Since the phantom plays based off sound and movement, the survivors at the moment can see him from a very far away but he can't see them. Also being semi ethereal he isn't that creepy looking since you really don't see him at all (except you DO see where he is and thus would stop moving).

I was thinking why not make it so you can't see the phantom unless he's X distance away from you and only if you're flashlight is on him. This would add to the jump scares. Also this wouldn't really take from his game play as survivors can still stand still and be "invisible". Granted this is just an idea and could use some tweaking but I think this would help the "Scares" of the phantom.

Thoughts?

I like your thoughts on the Phantom sdoucette1927, he really inst scary. I get your idea behind why it could be scary HighFlyer15 having it always on patrol it adds a different kind of fear. Perhaps a on-edge feeling, like walking on ice :p

However 99% of the Phantoms I've played with play the game like it's call of duty, they rush the spawning areas of players, kill all four of them before they do anything in the game and that is that.

I feel like games magic isn't dawning on everyone and the potential is lost when this kind of game style and mental focus is used. I prefer lurker by far, i like knowing where the survivors are, and i slowly pick them off one at a time, jumping out at them, vanishing. I let the survivors clear large spots of the map, while constantly giving them the shivers. Of course, you gotta pick one or two off from time to time, to let them know you are a threat, but in fact i don't mind if they escape at all. I get by far more enjoyment just toying with them, hearing them scream in the mic and run from me. I change my play style based off the players responses to me, and i try to keep it fresh and interesting. If they don't run and just stand still in the middle starting like a deer in headlights, time to put em' down, haha.

Since everyone has taken something different from this game, perhaps having different save states of the monster would be fun so if people enjoy a monster the way it is now, in a custom game they can roll it back to those preferred settings.
