In Crysis 3 Remastered, the fate of the world is once again in your hands. Returning to the fight as super-soldier Prophet, wielding a powerful auto-loading Predator Bow that fires electric, explosive, and carbon arrows, take on new and old enemies that threaten the peace you worked so hard to achieve. The search for the alien Alpha Ceph continues, but now you must also expose the truth behind the C.E.L.L. corporation, which has turned New York City into a sprawling urban rainforest sheltered by a giant nanodome. Equipped with your legendary Nanosuit, you must assess, adapt, and attack as you choose your path and fight through seven distinct districts. Decimate your opponents in a blaze of brute force using the Nanosuit's superior technology, or use stealth to achieve your goals and become humanity's silent savior. There's no wrong way to save the world.
Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 Remastered have just released on Steam, after previously being exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Now meaning you can own the entire Crysis setup in one place, it's worth noting the CryEngine was one of those old-school modding engines in its heyday with a lot of great projects making something new out of cutting edge tech, so here's our breakdown of five Crysis mods worth a visit!

MechWarrior: Living Legends is 14v14 total war in the BattleTech universe. Stride the battlefield in a titanic BattleMech - or swarm enemy 'Mechs as armored infantry. Rule the streets as a tank commander, or pound the enemy with field guns and cruise missiles. Dominate the skies in fusion-powered aerospace fighters and nimble VTOL attackers. Built on the Crysis engine, and featuring Battlefield's open maps and domination style gameplay. Matches escalate from skirmishes to ferocious armor battles and airstrikes. But you'll always start on even ground: there are no persistent unlocks or levels.
This mod makes all the levels daytime (including the first one). This mod was made for the players who don't mind changing the original artstyle of the game and prefer to play the game in a bright sunny day and those who always wondered how the night levels would look like during daytime. The mod also changes the original color of the nano suit's armor mode to RED. This was always something that I wanted to do because I love the look of the Maximum Strength mode from Crysis 1 (and red is my favorite color).
Crysis Remastered had a lot riding on its name - as the once PC killer of graphics card legend - and so when it released with graphical issues and vast swathes of new bugs introduced by the revisions, fans were left a little out in the cold. However, we know this story all too well - modders picking up the baton when the first released falls short of the mark - and that's exactly the goal behind the Crysis Remastered Improvement Project. Numerous bug fixes to AI, visuals, revisions for a more faithful restoration of the original game, and more ensure that if you've got to test your PC against Crysis in the modern day, this is one of the best ways to do it.
Featuring 2 maps, this mod adopts the environment of Crysis 1 (destructible environment, vegetation touch bending) while keeping the newest technology of the CryEngine 3 (DX11, Texture HD, detail bump mapping, tesselation, Parallax occlusion mapping). This is a different way to experience what a revised Crysis 1 could look like - and perhaps, as done by fans, something old-school Crysis players might appreciate more.
A commando, on a mission in a Central American jungle, finds himself being hunted by an aggressive life form from outer space. Utilizing CryEngine 2, it will be an unforgettable journey to the pure Predator universe. Crysis games received a number of total conversions back in the day thanks to the reasonably robust CryEngine modding tools and as a result, PREDATOR emerged from the modding underbrush. It's a great representative of what modders once achieved with the engine, and whilst smaller, what the scene still achieves today.
Crysis 2 and 3 Remastered released late last year on the Epic Games Store, promising to bring back the legend of Crysis melting even the most stalwart of graphics cards with cutting edge technology and stunning visuals. Whilst neither game is renowned for their gameplay offering, the graphical improvements to what were already pretty well held-up titles were as impressive as expected, utilising Ray Tracing tech to push lighting to the next level. Now, after an exclusivity period, the games have finally achieved parity with Steam on November 17th.
Future Crysis games and other spinoffs have been teased here and there, but with the entire trilogy now remastered and fully released on the broadest platforms, the only road forwards for Crytek is something more adventurous. It remains to be seen if Crytek will go back to their roots and push a new entry in the franchise (perhaps with more integrated modding support), but, if nothing else, "Can it run Crysis?" is now a question Steam users can ask just as well as anyone else.
