8-Bit Commando is a run and gun platformer with fast-paced action, a rocking soundtrack, local multiplayer and explosions. The graphics will take you back to the classic age of gaming and the gameplay is bound to challenge even the most seasoned vets.
It's official - the online multiplayer beta is up and running! You can start up a multiplayer session by choosing “Online” from the title screen.
Next, pick your favorite game mode (coop/versus/arcade) and invite somebody. Make sure you are signed into “Steam chat” to see which of your friends are playing too.
Lastly, there are a few things that you can do to improve your online experience:
- Play with friends who live nearby, preferably on the same continent.
- Plug into a wired connection or at least try to stay close to your wireless router.
- Close any open applications or background services connected to the internet.
- Turn off other devices connected to your home network or WIFI.
If you are having trouble please get in touch and remember to enable automatic updates for both your Steam client and the game. Thanks for reading and much LÖVE!

What a fantastic blast from the past. Clearly a labour of love and I wholeheartedly recommend it, as it's the best 2D run-'n-gun that never came out on the ol' NES. I'll be voting for this on Steam Greenlight, as I hope to also get a Steam key :D
cool, thanks for the praise :)
Uh Is This Game Still Working my brother already played it through
simply the best game in Contra\Op.Gryzor style!
Hello,
the game dont runs on my Win8 64 bit system.
Are the a solution?

What happens when you run "agenoria.exe"? Can you post the contents of "log.txt" on here?
Nice game guys :)
looks good, might test the demo one day.
but these graphics look more like those of a 16 bit genesis. (lol)
Is it possible you could increase the speed the players projectiles? That always bugged me in Contra and now here... :/
Hi, there is an "M" powerup which gives you a more rapid machine gun. Other than that there's no way to change the speed of the bullets. Even if you could it would probably break the gameplay balance.
A question to the developers of this game, I can only set the resolution to a max of 1680x1050, but the native resolution of my monitor is 1920x1080, it isn't a big deal at all with a game like this, but are their any plans to patch in the ability to scale higher resolutions like 1080p?
Cool question :) I don't think there is a software limit to what resolution you want to set. Have you tried using 1/2 or 1/4 of your native res? If you find that 1/2 or 1/4 resolutions look blurry, it's probably because your have anti-aliasing enabled on your video card (which looks awful for pixel art games). Also, you can edit your "settings.ini" and switch to OpenGL graphics: "[video] plugin=Plugins\AgenOGL.dll" just to see if that looks any better than DirectX.
If we ever get the chance to re-factor the game I'll try to remember your suggestion. Man, I wish we had the time to go back and rewrite the collisions and controls for the game too... but we have a few other projects going on right now...
Yeah, sorry to waste your time with trivial things, I actually managed to change it to 1920x1080 by changing my desktop resolution to 1680x1050, then it let me change the res in-game, then I just changed my desktop res back. Weird.
Do you mind if I what your other projects are? Playing Commando I was thinking that a game using that engine and look, but isometric, would be really awesome.
Glad you managed to get that working. :)
Yes, something like Commando could work with an overhead perspective too. The thing is, action games like this need to be very scripted, which is fine, but I think it would be more interesting to do a procedural game where the focus would be more on exploration. Prototypes tend to take a life of their own though, so I can't say for sure how it would turn out. :)
