50 EA games soon to lose support for multiplayer online.

EA have not found any alternative to the dying Gamespy service and a large number of games thus lose multiplayer support.
Gamespy has long been a household name for gamers, as numerous games, both PC and console, had multiplayer modes built on servers.
2014 marks the notoriously late for Gamespy, which also means that hundreds of games are in danger of losing support for gaming on-line.

Many developers and publishers, including Activision, Rockstar and SEGA has announced that they are working to find alternative solutions for games that use the Gamespy servers. Similar messages came from EA, which over the years have used Gamespy for many titles, but now the company has announced that they choose to flappers support in their Gamespy games.

Technical challenges and not least the fact that most of the games that use Gamespy start pulling on the oars, located behind EA's decision to allow multiplayer support across 50 titles die out. A variety of titles, such as F1 2002, EA Sports 06 to PC or Fifa Soccer 08-10 for the Nintendo DS, has hardly many active players, but the list also contains relatively popular games like Battlefield 2, Crysis 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

PC games constitute a large part of the list, but Nintendo consoles are also strongly represented. Nintendo has not gone back on its decision to allow the many DS and Wii titles that use Gamespy lose multiplayer functionality, and EA games are no exception.

Popular titles loosing online multiplayer 30th of June 2014.

Theres a light in this darkness!

As a way to work around this closure, you can use programs like hamatchi to create virtual lans gloabaly, however these free programs are designed with gamers in mind.

GameRanger is a free download for Mac and PC that lets you play over 600 games and demos online with friends and opponents worldwide.

GameRanger offers features like profiles, friends lists, instant messaging, in-game voice communication, and competitive ladders/rankings/ratings.

Tunngle is a revolutionary p2p VPN tool that delivers the best online entertainment experience.
Tunngle is designed to allow PC gamers to comfortably play their LAN Games over the Internet.

It doesn't matter if your game is old, epic or brand new. You don't have to worry if your friends are miles away! Tunngle makes use of the games LAN mode to connect the players together.

Overall it's a shame to see so many great titles loose official multilayer support, but with strong modding communities behind these titles, their legacy will reign on for years to come.

What really happens is that official servers are shutting down. There will be no official or community servers when you hit "search". You can still wire up a virtual LAN and play "Local" matches with all your friends at will, so yeargh! It is not the end times! THE END TIMES HAS NOT COME! Except for consoles. Consoles are ******.

I've used Hamachi and Tungle, neither are very reliable or stable. I haven't had problems with Evolvehq.com though.

Gold tip for EA, you have lots of money use it to buy the servers and maintain them, you can do it and it will make you look like less like a greedy *******.

EA knows nothing but greed. I try to make my colleagues just as upset and angry as I am, but they're all console peasants. 'Tis a sad thing when the majority of the world have been bought out to new ****** games and don't care what happens to old games.

Wow, bunch of negative commentary to a company who didn't shut down a service but is dealing with a 3rd party being shut down.

Just think of what will happen when Valve starts dropping support for games that use it's matchmaking service.

Gamespy had a great run. Sad it has to shut down (I don't even think the online server division is owned by IGN/Fox any more but sold off years ago).

To bad nobody commenting here had the $$ to buy the servers & keep them online, eh? Guess that makes you part of the problem then not part of the solution. :)

EA has the funds to solve this issue, whilst alot of anger is pointed at EA for failing to resolve the issue for its popular titles, it was the company that ran gamespy who's at direct fault.

They would have to dig up all network code from ALL games using GameSpy service and create another service themselves, then buy servers and maintain them for a minor percentage of gamers? That, even to me, is bad business. You want bankruptcy? Cause thats how you get bankruptcy.

That's not as hard as you think..this is a money ploy from EA trying to get people to play their newer titles .

EA at first did say they were NOT going to let their legacy titles die, as far as EA going Bankrupt?

I would love to see that they deserve it with their shady practices, and releasing unfinished games.

The only thing I would hate to see from such a thing though is all the people who will lose their jobs..

BF2 and BF2 still have quite a number of players as well as Battlefield 2142.

It is still not enough to validly add funds to try and save them. I know they said they weren't going to let them die, but EA found some issues when they tried to save certain games like BF2. It is the circle of life, even for games. Yin and Yang.

It would be chump change to EA and actually give them much needed positive publicity.

It's bs if you think they stopped because they hit a snag..

I'm sure the REAL fact is some of their older titles are taking away from their newer ones that have a terrible reputation "i.e. BF 4 and Sim City" which both have a rapidly dwindling player base.

They said at first legacy titles would not die and even mentioned Battlefront two and Battlefield 2142 and 2 by name.

So why the 180 suddenly?

Was it because they have found "problems" for keeping the service online? No I don't think there was a glitch in the Matrix.

They changed their mind because some of EA's money men crunched the numbers and decided that the people who play the older Battlefields and battlefront games would possibly buy BF4 and Titanfall.

@The Happy Friar.

My anger at EA is not the fact they are shutting down the servers..

It's the fact that at first they said they would KEEP those multiplayer games alive. Then said they would not.

They LIED.

If they would have just said in the first place that they were shutting them down I would have been sad but not mad.

There might be an solution for BF2 and possibly BF2142. Have you ever heard of BF2 Statistics Controll Center? I use it for my Beta Trial for my mod, Final War. BF2 SPCC has a lot of potential, one of the reasons I use it is because it allows you to have ranked dedicated servers, as well as a custom ranking system and unlock system. I've had a database for my server that have kept track on players stats, I'm currently a Staff Sergeant (requires a score of above 49000/60000 using a customqranking and scoring system). Sure I had some problems at first, particularly with the stats not saving properly (mostly my fault, BF2 SPCC didn't like custom factions). With all the features included with BF2 SPCC it can be and is a very handy "tool", a loggin emulator is included so you could create separate accounts for BF2 SPCC. Also on co-op servers, you can force more than 48 bots. What I've written so far is far from all the features of Battlefield 2 Statistics Controll Center, also, another very handy feature is that you can perma ban account.

Oh, people, There are plenty of games that have had their multi-player services cut in the past. If the community is strong enough there will be a program that acts as a connector. It has been done with C&C Red alert 2, and C&C Tiberian Sun, and even some games that had no multi-player features to begin with. Just because the official server is coming down, does not mean multi-player will die. It will just be up to an inventive person to make EA look bad by providing a freeware program that does the same thing.

You are right actually, I can play my original XBOX online for free even though XBOX LIVE was removed four years ago, also I can play "Need for Speed Porsche 2000 (NFS Porsche Unleashed in USA)" and some other good old PC games online.

But I still hate EA for making crappy rushed games with overly expensive low-content DLC's, repeating content and their dumb Origin, "customer support" and Play4Free games. Greedy bastards, I hope their bad community will leave them some day like the ex-fans who quit liking them after they became greedy. They only care about money instead of community, that's why people hate them for removing the older hit titles.

Bottom line: It isn't EA whose at fault here. Nobody is. An old service is shut down and all games using this service will be cut as follows. EA is at least announcing what happens on their side. I've not seen a post from Activision or anyone else yet though.

What I am saying is, if your comment is "ermagerd, this is bs", then you need to read a few things first.

All games will suffer this effect one time.

Java was even supposed to be killed off by now.

Hello Community

We, the Project Reality: Battlefield 2 Team, have developed our own 'GameSpy Solution'.

Our players will still be able to play the Project Reality Modification for Battlefield 2.
The Forgotten Hope mod team will also implement our solution for their mod, so both mods will be still alive and kicking after the GameSpy Server shutdown.

A patch will be released within the next weeks on realitymod.com, so stay tuned for further announcements.

Cheers
