While it may have started the overuse of Regenerating Health, Call of Duty 2 was an insane joyride, far surpassing that of Call of Duty and pretty much any game that year in intensity and atmosphere. You never fight alone in Call of Duty 2 :)
One of the greatest World War II games I've ever played, great story and great gameplay. The story was a bit too short, and vehicular warfare is missing in multiplayer.
