The natural progression of entertainment is such that when something gets so big and so iconic, it gets a day of celebration. Apparently, Activision believes it's Call of Duty franchise is big enough for a two day convention. I guess E3 just wasn't enough.Just announced, the first ever "Call of Duty XP" is to take place Labor Day weekend on September 2 & 3 in Los Angeles and is an all-out Modern Warfare 3 reveal. Tickets are to cost $150 and will go on sale July 19th. (All profits, yes 100% of ticket sales, go to non-profit group Call of Duty Endowment. The group lends combat veterans a helping hand on setting themselves back up for a normal civilian life after service in the military.) Those who attend will have the opportunity to get their hands on the full MW3 game approximately two months before its retail release, as well as, a look at the full Elite service (not just the beta which rolls out July 15th.) If that's not enough to get you excited, how does a 32-team $1 million Black Opsmultiplayer tournament sound? If you don't win, don't be discouraged; players can compete for prizes in Zombies, Spec Ops, free-for-all, etc. If you're still not sold on the idea that all of this could have just happened at E3, the folks throwing this thing together have gone out of their way to build a life-size recreation of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer map "Scrapyard," on which the "ultimate paintball firefight" shall take place, or you could put your reactions to the test and spend some time running through "the Pit." I suppose when you have twelve acres to play with, you can do almost anything you want, but Acitivion is making sure this event is huge; the ultimate Call of Duty experience all the way down to grabbing some food from Burger Town, an arsenal of the real weapons that inspired the game, and much more.
