The series was created by British developer Rare in 1991 to rival the then-popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a platformer for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Three anthropomorphic toads punch, jump, and hover-bike their way through rescuing a princess from the sinister Dark Queen and her legion of space mutants. Microsoft owns Rare.
