Bacillus = a rod shaped bacteria. In Bacillus you take control of a bacillus shaped bacteria by evolving in a changing environment. The game allows you to explore a large open world and compete for resources against other evolving bacteria. The game blends unique microbiology concepts with video game classics. As one of the most accurate biology games to date, the game uses a realistic custom built evolution engine to drive game play. Each bacteria in the game has a genome (DNA) which represents the bacteria's traits and will mutate over time. Perfect for the fans of introns, codons, and operons. You play in a "large" (well...large for bacteria) sandbox style world with the only goal of survive. So you must use evolution to your advantage to make it in this changing world.

Bacillus is a game trying to replicate the complex world of bacteria. Players are given a bacteria to control with the simple task of surviving. To do so, they can upgrade (or evolve) this bacteria with new tools of survival. They will need to divide to keep their population up. And need to find a viable source of energy (of which there's a diverse number of metabolic options, including eating uranium). Against them is Nature, and hundreds of other bacterial species which naturally evolve with the player. The game also features a realistic evolution system, as each species has a genome (yes that means DNA, nucleotides, codons and genes), which its traits are based on. It has been in development since 2008 by a single programmer (me/John).

Now it's ready to get some funds for a final push to polish up the game and get it ready to be a great game. And kick starter has agreed to host the campaign to help acquire these funds.

The kick starter campaign will begin on February 29th (unique because that day only happens once every 4 years).
And the kick starter will end on March 23rd (John's Birthday).

These two dates also coincidentally fit into the game's development schedule, as the game is expected to be released in April.

But how about the rewards? Well it's not set in stone but here are some basic reward that will probably be featured :

  • Beta access to the game.
  • Getting a Bacteria species named after you.
  • Getting your own uniquely designed bacteria.
  • Getting to name a piece of the world (mountain, river, ect.)
  • Getting to name the world.
