Avoision is a fast-paced, retro arcade game for Windows and Linux with lo-fi graphics and chiptune music. The objective is to capture the red square while avoiding numerous moving obstacles; one wrong move and (in true 8-bit style) it's all over.

Avoision 0.7, a fast, retro arcade game that's free for Windows and Linux, is now available from the Avoision web site.

With this release, Avoision has all the features and bug fixes I planned for the project. Most visible in this release is improved support for Linux, including desktop menu entries, and binary packages for Ubuntu, Debian, and other distributions (DEB/RPM formats). Please give the packages a try and let me know if you run into problems.

If you're new to Avoision, here's how to play:

  • Move the green block around with the arrow keys
  • Capture the red block as quickly as you can to score more points
  • Avoid all the white blocks that appear as you progress through the game
  • Try to get the highest score!

Special thanks to Lada Laika for the awesome chiptune music.

Nice one, looks addictive and love the name :D

I know you are aiming for simple retro but if you would like some help with graphics message me. I'm currently working on a similar game called Octopede ( Moddb.com ).
