Finished beating the demo with 2 character types today and I have to say that Jeff and his team have outdone themselves! With prettier graphics and a very intuitive yet complex battle system, it is a MUST HAVE for any old school gamer. Mind you the demo is much shorter then per usual from spiderweb it is a great play for those on the fence.

Those familiar with the Avernum or Exile series will find something new this time around, with 4 classes each with their own skill tree giving each character a very unique playstyle. I myself favour the ShadowWalker.

It's great to see Spiderweb on Moddb and I hope their new game does well. As soon as I get my Desura set up this will be my first purchase!

20$?

10$ max.

More of a 4.99$ title. Looks like a bad Nippon Ichi game copy. If it's 20$ though, it better have like 40-50 hours of gameplay.

If it's only 10, you're over-charging.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Mkilbride here.
Looks interesting, though.

It's a spiderweb game, even without the replayability your looking anywhere between 30 to 100, with varying paths, LOTS of story and lore, and hordes of secrets.

Higher difficulties are available too, but as Jeff like 90% of people to be able to complete normal difficulty, those looking for a challenge may want to start on hard.

I like it a lot. My first impressions based on the demo were these:

I've been playing the demo quite a bit. I got the hang of it, levelled up a few times and saw how the core mechanics work. The game drew me in and I can already see the sinister potential the story holds under the rather straightforward introductory fluff I have to go through. Hopefully it does ramp up later on. It might not look it, but it's been a joy to play after I got over the initial annoyances and disappointment with certain details here and there. It's basically fun like Infinity Engine games used to be, though not as ambitious of course, the team isn't exactly the size of Black Isle. It's trying to be more accessible I guess, so don't expect the same depth in every way (such as combat, it's neat but it's no d&d). The areas seem pretty large though, with multiple levels each, and the writing, while simple (I'm still basically in my first main quest, though you can do various simple side quests along the way) is better than most games.

After I bought it and progressed more they evolved into these:

I bought the game after exhausting the demo's playability. It's certainly been much more straightforward than previous Spiderweb games. You could say it's their Icewind Dale of sorts. No major complaints from me, I loved that game even though it wasn't an open RPG and so far this is pretty damn good too. I just got done with the third main story mission, though the situations in the second are sure to be revisited later, too many loose ends were left over. I only didn't like having no choice to stand against an obviously malicious character, but other than that so far I like how the stories are told (there has been some decision making too, the conseqquences of which are not yet apparent) and the dungeon crawling is fun and challenging. I die a few times here and there until I figure out how to beat a boss or other strong enemy. I'm only playing on Hard (not the highest).

I see your favour the warrior. Although you miss out on some of the warrior companions weird dialogue, you still get to have that obsessive sorceress in the party. She scares me.

I have noticed tho that each companion DOES have special dialogue based on if you bring them on specific missions, and can and WILL get mad at you if your go against their beliefs. I hear there are loyalty missions to help ease that later tho.

Yes the sorceress is cool in a psycotic sort of way. I'll use the other characters in other playthroughs. Since the impressions in the quotes there were written, I've done the shaman's homeland quests, even though I rarely used her in my party. It was pretty cool. I'll use other classes in another playthrough, I like this group for now. I'll probably pick the sorceress or shadow walker for myself and the shaman and warrior companions.

Some more 800p screens, I didn't have any showing the inventory and other menu screens.

Moddb's gameplay video has bad colors and frame rate, don't judge the game by that. Some of the moddb screens are high res yet with a really tiny GUI too. My screenshots are more representative of it. If you play in higher resolution you can increase the text size.

Having played a game of spiderweb software ( Exile 3 ) I'd say I have spent a thousands of hours playing it. I tried Avadon last years, and all that was slowing me from buying it was the price ( on spiderweb website it's 30$ ) so here it's realy realy cheap for such a game !

People never complained when it was 30$, so it's to be loved here for it's price.
