The Swine are Rising! In 2010 Frictional Games terrified the world with the cult horror Amnesia: A Dark Descent. Now they bring you a new nightmare. Created by The Chinese Room, the studio behind Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is an intense and terrifying journey into the heart of darkness that lurks within us all. The year is 1899. Wealthy industrialist Oswald Mandus awakes in his bed, wracked with fever and haunted by dreams of a dark and hellish engine. Tortured by visions of a disastrous expedition to Mexico, broken on the failing dreams of an industrial utopia, wracked with guilt and tropical disease, he wakes into a nightmare. The house is silent, the ground beneath him shaking at the will of some infernal machine: all he knows is that his children are in grave peril, and it is up to him to save them. Step back into the horror.
I like the new things of this game but I will always miss the effects that the old game had :(
This game is just awfuuuuuuuuuuuul, the history is really good, even if I haven't reached the end of this game, it's so awesome and pretty scarry! Really nice game like the first Amnesia! :)
In all honesty I was really hyped up for this game since it was the sequel for Amnesia: The Dark Descent but it did not live up to the standard I had for the game.
There are a lot of things that are better then The Dark Descent, such as the graphics, setting, story, etc.... I do feel like these were good things but I feel the story was so heavy focused on you forgot about the GAMEPLAY.
I was thinking that this was going to be one of the scariest games out there but it does not come close at all. There are hardly any monsters to run from and you guys took away some of the key features of AMNESIA. Such as collecting oil and having to maintain that oil so you can keep using it. This game just lets you run unlimited lantern which made the game so much easier and less scary then what it should have been. Also the puzzles are so simple I feel like no one should have trouble with them, half of the stuff is right in front of you that it is nearly impossible to fail at any of them. Also why is darkness not a factor of fear anymore, I thought the bugs eating away at the brain was perfect but you guys also stripped that away in A Machine For Pigs. Also the AI need to be fixed, there were alot of times where I was standing 2 feet from them and they never tried to chase me.
I hardly feel like this is the sequel to the original let alone a horror game. I wanted to be terrified, I wanted to be constantly screaming, I wanted AMNESIA.... I can only hope you guys will realize your mistake and make it up with a DLC.
7/10 is actually really nice of me to give this game for a rating. I don't know about you but I am severely disappointed with this game.

Amnesia A Machine For Pigs is definitely a good game, but in my opinion it could not meet the expectations (which honestly were way too high to be met anyway).
The points I enjoyed the most were the Story, it´s pacing, the setting and the absolutely gorgeous sound.
The main things that I did not enjoy were the missing interaction, the low difficulty level and the absence of the sanity sytem. Though I understand that too much interaction may distract the player and too difficult puzzles may get the player stuck I think that putting in some more moveable objects and just increasing the difficulty a little bit would not hurt the gameflow and intensify the immersion a lot. Even worse the missing sanity system and ressource management are two big points that made the enemies less of a threat and therefore not as scary as they could have been.
Nevertheless I enjoyed the game :)
These are my four strongest points of the game.
Story:
I liked how everything starts, but later on it becomes even scarier, when you read the notes about rising piggies and you reveal more secrets later on, but! I was disappointed when you can see dead childrens and then vanished and you already know there were dead already?! That was quite annoying imo and maded me little angry and story really lacks sometimes a lot. Overall it was still great adventure to go through.
Gameplay:
Gameplay was pretty intense and actually liked that you don't need any tinderboxes or oil to fuel up your lantern and wondering most of the time in the darkness, but still I think it lacks and was kind of lame and unrealistic to play this way. When I reached first puzzles I was disappointed again.. because this game didn't have that inventory and it ruined completely "challenging puzzles part" for me. Still, I liked play this way now and it was more faster to progress, but I hope next installment doesn't have "removed inventory, never-ending lantern and so on.
Map Design:
I was really impressed how whole game was designed, so much rooms to explore and search stuff... Umm nope. Because of the "disabled inventory" blah. Well.. still map design was impressive, magnificent and really loved to see "Amnesia TDD assets" here aswell and looked how much they used those assets too. Outside enviroments were really great, streets and everything, really put effort on those. Overall this was one of the strongest point of the game.
Atmosphere:
Well.. What I can say? This was one of the greatest atmospheres I ever played through, okay there are couple maps they don't fit at all and ruins sometimes, but overall really good executed and I was literally cringing because of the atmosphere is so great in this game. Enough said.
8/10 - Really terrifying and succesful horror game after TDD
In my opinion, the story line is perfect, the music is beautiful, but the jumpscares are so bad, no custom stories that made the game bothering and so bad.
The "Piggies" they don't are so scary, in fact i think they are more funny.
The ending of the game is so *******.
The game remove things that made Amnesia make unique and really scary, like the possibility of picked up stuff to throw at the monsters, the desperation of searching oil and the sanity effect.
Another thing that made Amnesia A Machine for Pigs bothering is that they would no more voice acting like the first Amnesia.
Also, there are more bugs and glitches in the entire game.
My final critic is that Frictional Games and The Chinese Room, made a game that no deserve the name "Amnesia" because it's too short, no scary as all and so many glithces.
Final rating 7/10
Sorry for my bad English
What many people aren't realizing, is that although it is called Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, THIS GAME IS NOT THE ORIGINAL AMNESIA. I liked this game for everything that is was and was so so so amazed by the time the game finished. While the monster scares were numbered low compared to the original Amnesia game, the game to me was terrifying in it's own aspect, and that, to me, is perfect. This game has lived up to my expectations of what it was like, and there were a few moments where I was scared out of my wits! What I've noticed, was this game relies HEAVILY on the sounds. I played the entire game with earbuds in and the volume on the computer all the way up. It made the game TERRIFYING! So the people who think this game is worthless, try playing it the way I played it. If you don't have headphones on, the music and sounds don't sound HALF as scary as they do with headphones on. I loved everything in this game. This game seemed more realistic to me than the original game. I don't know about other people, but the sheer idea of machinery scares the crap out of me! I sat there for five minutes in one part of the game just watching the pistons turn and the sheer magnitude of the machinery amazed me and scared me! The vastness of all the maps were amazing. The details and everything was amazing. The music, especially with earbuds in was my favorite of all, I think. The voice acting and story line was fantastic. I liked going around and seeing some items from the original Amnesia but also enjoyed that this game is it's own entity and has its own properties and a uniqueness I have never seen anywhere else. I aboslutely loved this game and loved that Brennenburg was mentioned in a few notes. :) I am speechless about this game. I cannot wait to play this again and again and again. Money well spent and it was most definitely worth the wait. I especially loved how some doors disappeared and things were twisted around, it really added to the effect of the game! 10/10!
A masterpiece.
thechineseroom totally screwed this game up!
