“A Nation of Wind” is a video game featuring elements of gameplay from both “Arena Shooters” (like Geometry Wars, Super Stardust, and Asteroids), and “Real Time Strategy” games, (such as Populous, Starcraft, and Actraiser). Set in a world of floating islands and airships, the player is tasked with commanding a ship and establishing/defending colonies. Players will be forced to deal with the bizarre creatures that come up from the lower atmospheres to wreak havoc on their airship and settlements, while appeasing the god’s of the land and eventually bending them to the player’s will. “A Nation of Wind” is currently developed by one intrepid artist, Jameson Wilkins. He is a freelancer with several years of experience in the browser and mobile gaming markets, and has studied game design and art the entirety of his life.

A Nation of Wind Beta 1.5 is now available for free on Desura! What does this update bring to the game? Two important things!

A Nation of Wind Screenshots

Phoenix Eggs!

Got a surplus of food there Captain? Why not hatch a Phoenix! You'll be conveniently informed of whenever a Phoenix Egg comes through a Maelstrom, but be sure to rescue it quickly, apparently monsters just love the taste of them. Feed it enough to hatch the Phoenix and be rewarded with a hefty amount of Experience!

Mega Turrets!

For a hefty price of 2000 gold, you can now purchase the powerful Mega-Turret from the Sky-Harbor! These floating cannons can be towed about, the same as Phoenix Eggs, and placed in key positions to defend your units, or simply towed behind the Airship to protect yourself while retreating!

This is one of my favorite recent indie games!

Really excellent use of Game Maker. And, I really like how the mix of combat and city building play out in this title.

Now, what I really want to know is, when can we expect a sequel?!?

I've been having trouble playing this game on my desktop. I'm not sure why. It plays really well on my laptop, which is crap compared to my desktop, but the controls lag so bad when playing on my desktop that it is unplayable. Anyone got any ideas? I've tried putting it in windowed mode, that didn't help, and there are no options beyond turning the music off.

Other than the boss battles (It would be nice to have some sort of resistances system so combat is more understandable) it is a great game!

This is a wonderful game. Please, follow the idea with a kickstarter to polish it up a little and enhance it. I am mainly talking about resolution settings, possibly a multiplayer (Co-OP - more players building and defending one empire, and of course a deathmatch), randomly generated maps based on preferences, map builder...I see a lot of potential and replay value.
Please, please - CONTINUE. We need games like this.
