ArChNeMiSiS Say hello to my little friend!

Project name:
World Domination

Brief description:
World Domination is a modification for the Source Engine (Half-Life 2 series and affiliates) that follows the main character, Alec Williams, as he attempts to take on the world and become it's ruler. We have only been in development for just over a month now (nearing two months). We haven't got a lot to show for it, but most of our base work is set. We have maps and models in development and just need to get a coder to implement the main system of the mod, the "Laptop Menu System" (details below). Our immediate goals are to get the Laptop Menu System implemented and working in game and progress from there by getting all art assets under control.

The story follows Alec Williams (the main character) along his path to obtain global supremacy. His campaign will take him along many trails, starting out as a petty criminal, and becoming more powerful as the game progresses. The game will start out by giving the player a small base of operations (after the intro mission) where the player is free to steal (increasing his cash stockpile so he/she can buy new equipment), gain support through public acts of treason and plan assassinations. Basically, the player will undertake two types of missions, Story missions (which further the game's plot) and supplementary missions (which improve the player's stats and base of operations such as stealing money and gaining support for their faction). The mod is, what I like to call, a blend of First Person Shooter, Strategy and Role Playing Games, or essentially a "FPRPS" or First Person Role Playing Strategy. We have no set time line of development for the mod, thus, it will be ready when it is ready.

Target aim:
Half-Life 2 users

Compensation:
We are a simple group of people who have a passion for modding so therefore cannot provide any form of compensation.

Technology:
Mapping:
- Hammer (Source Engine mapping program)

Modelling
- Maya
- XSI Softimage

2D Art
- Hand drawn
- Photoshop

Talent needed:
Coder
-----
Tasks include:
- Implementing the "Laptop Menu System" (Details below)
- Multiple Resources (Cash, Support, Fuel) and a system that uses them.
- Recruitment system allowing players to hire street thugs.
- Implementing an Object Placement mode that allows the player to place objects inside their base.

At this point in time all we need is a coder. Our previous coder had to regretfully resign from his position due to real life commitments. He started work on the Laptop Menu system but due to his resignation could not complete it. He has agreed to act as a consultant if we need to know anything about his work, thus the new coder will receive any of his knowledge about his task. Other tasks may be included after the above has been implemented such as implementing new weapons into the mod. We also have two of our members (one being myself) learning to code C but will not be ready for such a critical task for a while.

Team structure:
Matthew Patterson (Myself) - Project Lead, Mapper, Beginner Coder
Stephan Heijl- GUI artist/website design and management
Mathias Burmeister - Mapper, Beginner Coder
Marcin Kraszewski - 2D Concept Artist
Cosmin Marza - Music Composer
Alistair Maclean - Mapper
Michael Goldsmith - Modeller (can animate, uv map, rig and model)

Website:
Worlddommod.com - the site is up but is still being worked on.

Contacts:
Contact myself by email: Archnemisis_112@hotmail.com

A PM is also acceptable and is probably the easiest for me.

Previous Work by Team:
Since we have only formed, this is our first project.

Additional Info:
We are a dedicated team and much discussion has been had over most of the features and how we can implement them. Unfortunately, due to our coder resigning, we have had to look for another to replace him. We are discussing the possible release of a playable teaser demo but we have not decided on anything. For more information, on the specifics of the mod, refer to our profile on moddb.com here: Moddb.com

Some of our concept art:

Some WIP map images:

**These images and more images can be found on the mod profile - see link above.**
**More work is being produced, however at the time of writing this, it is not ready yet.**

The Laptop Menu System
-------------------------
This is a simple (hopefully simple, could become more complicated then expected) feature which will be added into a map. The player will select the laptop in-game which will bring up a menu on the screen (like a screen overlay). This screen will also appear with a mouse cursor which the player can control with their mouse and will allow the player to select various menus on the top, left hand side. These options will bring up another screen (for example, a mission select screen) which will allow the player to select a mission which will then transport them to a mission map. Once the mission criteria are met, the player completes the mission and is transferred back to the original map with the laptop. The stats from the mission are then uploaded to an inventory system which monitors how much cash was stolen (adding it to the player's overall cash supply) and monitors how much cash the player has at that point in time.

Hopefully it will be simple as it is the backbone to the mod. If this feature is implemented, then life will be easier for everyone. If you don't understand this concept, please ask, and I will answer.

Feedback:
ANY
We feel that any sort of feedback will help us develop the mod or discover any potential flaws in the design.

We would really appreciate finding someone to be our coder. Seeing as we just lost our other coder due to real life issues. So while we aren't really behind on work, I want to try and find a coder to ensure we don't fall behind in our development.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for your time.
