I just didn't voted cause all his options didn't make sense, plus his opinion on what is a gamer is way wrong since all he said was game play. The real way to describe what a gamer is it's just a person that loves playing video games.

I konw people who only really cares about games looking good.

If game is crap, they don't like, but if a game is very fun, and there is this other game that is ok but looks really good, the ok game is better because it has great graphics.

I don't really think there should be a explanation about what a gamer is. If you play games and you want to call yourself a gamer then that's really all it takes in my book. Also the person above me has a epic sig.

Wow. This is the stupidest thing I've seen since the guy who said that a game sucked because it didn't have blood.
I wouldn't try to define a gamer, you just have to know them.
Graphics can ad a lot to game, but graphic realism is the least important thing to me, I consider audio, storyline, and gameplay to be much more important than HD graphics. But I have nothing against HD graphics, they usually do make them game better, but they should never be the main priority.

Sounds like this thread should be renamed "I hate graphics whores, who's with me" ?

And to that I answer : Yes, it's annoying when people are concerned with shaders instead of substance, but that's life. I guess we also probably need a thread called "why do the pretty girls get all the attention!?"

Gamer Ranking By Skill/Cred

1337 - The 10th Percentile of the Gaming Population. These guys DESTROY you in Multiplayer. Usually seen playing the Classics, and revered amongst the pr0's.

pr0 - People who compete competitively for games. They practice their game like a sport, with regular exercise regimes, in homes of honing their skills to join the 1337. They play in the top 20 in tournaments.

n00b - Gamers who are looking to take it to the pr0 level, and are just starting out. Usually decent, but repetitive in actions, lack the instinct to improvise during a match and usually this suffers them lower scores.

Gamer - Collectors, Nerds, Otaku's and the like. Appreciate good games, and see and admire the hardwork. They usually see Game Designers as their hero's, or look up to them. They either started off with pre-1990 Console and Computer Games, or have a deepseeded respect for them. They enjoy the single player experience, and the social experience of multiplayer gaming and aren't typically as fierce in their competitive play as the n00b, pr0, and 1337.

Gramer - Ahh, when Video Games became cool, your average joe, and your schoolyard bully took to them like fat kids to smarties. Usually play the games that are mainstream, that 'everyone else is playing' and tend not to deviate from those selections. Such games are the Call of Duty series, Wii Fit, Madden series, and mostly anything that has more than 6 titles and that isn't good like Mario and Mega Man.

Wannabes/Failboat Sailors/Trolls - These are the nubcakes that only play NES games because... they're cool. This includes people that still only play Pokemon Red and Blue on their Hot Pink Gameboy Colors because they think that they'll get attention or 'nerd cred'. Gamers and above look at these fools like Skaters look at Rollerbladers. "Posers". They can't play the games worth a damn, don't know how to put their initials into an arcade game. Don't know a single move in any fighting game. And fail hard at Dance Dance Revolution (so do I thought ). Avoid those who would set sail for fail. At least Gramer's can still be saved. These folks are a lost cause. They're also the crowd MS, Sony, and Nintendo geared family games to... aka gaming standing up... wtf is that... ???!!!!

graphics are very important. No you say im a noob?

Best example i can give is that horror games NEED impressive graphics because they are trying to awake our feeling and fear. Better visuals more options for scarying people. But ofcourrd game can be scary with bad engine. The creator have to be genius to go same state of impressivness.

Fast paced quake games have to be very adaptive and configurable. Arena shooters are very rare so they need fly traps. Pro's = max fps. Graphic hoes max out = more prey. Old pc users under linux = happy for descent gfx for a game on linux.

Art games (realism and simulator too)
They need better gfx for more immersive story. In same lines as horror mostly.

Crysis. Oh cmon isnt that always cool to test how much you can push computers to compute and render even better. There have to be much demanding games.

Think. Pushing new gfx out granted us GPU acceleration. Multi threading,VBO and such. They improve perfomance if you dont go for graphics.

Also ofcourse doom wouldnt be doom without its engine. There is graphical modifications but they dont give you same feeling.

Just a small rant. Personaly i love IDtech 3.

@thewonderboy Yeah, even though Doom 3 is dated, that game STILL scares the crap out of me. It takes what it does, and does it to the best of it's abilities, and has VERY rewarding results.

With Crysis, being inside the ship, at the highest graphics settings... it still blows my mind.

For scary, but not too good graphics, the Penumbra series, the games don't look the best, nor does it have the coverage it deserves, but i think it one of the most creepy, mind taunting and frighting series ever made.

Personally i think it is on par with games like Dead Space, and Resident Evil, mind you i'm a real girl when it comes to horror games, sit in a well lit room, volume down low, and a fully loaded sawn of shotgun, just in case.

Lol i was speaking about DOOM which is the original. Its 2.5D is epic (its not fully 3D) and it does realy some creepy job with lighting.

About the penumbra reply. Well i do think that if person is locked alone to some place with a second voice talkin in hes head and random horifying creatures that you cant kill, it is scary psycicaly even without top notch engine. (never played it. Just readed) good lighting does magics too.

Avp2 has helluva lighting for such an old engine and does good job scarying shit outta you if you play first time

Also i consider half life having ok graphics but counter strike 1.6 has good in comparansion. So for me its not only tasty effects and the engine. Its about taking full advantages of what you can. wolfenstein enemy territory looks very bad compared to its mod True combat elite. TCE has very tasty textures and some nice faked effects among with few tricks (re rendered view in sniper scope a.k.a portal scope system)

I love more like-classic engines tho. (litch tech 2, idtech 3)
