They never have been. Sony hates Europe and the Brits in particular. They've been shitting on consumers in the UK for decades.

Any particular reason?

its going to suffer like the ds or the ds-i very little games that hard core gamers will play (i own a ds-i and the games i play on it are Mario and pokemon (about the only games that applead to me)) so i see the wii-u will be aimed at people who want gimmicks but don't want to pay for a x-box and kinect and casual games but i cant see it getting a lot of interest as a mobile game platform as judging by the case it wants to be as you need full size DVD `s. also i cant even seeing it replacing the wii as the controls look big and awkward put simply i wont be queueing for it

It's the world's best selling handheld system with more than 146 million units sold, it's not exactly a suffering brand (unless you meant the 3ds, which is new and lacking many games, period). I don't think any handheld would even suffer from a lack of 'hard core' games because part of their strength and appeal is that you can pull one out and be able to play a quick game or two in the time it takes to commute to work, pass time a lunch break, sit in a waiting room, etc.

On the other hand, the Wii-U is a console that you only play in your house, which means core games, that require more time invested per session, are more accepted. If the Wii-U is more powerful than the 360/PS3 and they are advertising the kind of games they were (Battlefield, Arkham Asylum, Assassins Creed, etc), getting support for more core games wont be a problem. Perhaps a good online system is going to be the biggest hurdle there. Otherwise a lot of people own Wiis, and if they can still play their Wii games and use the same Wii remotes on the new system, it's going to be easier for them to upgrade as long as the price is right (probably an easier pill to swallow for the first waves of people who bought the Wii years ago, compared to someone who just laid down money on the Wii only to find out a new one will be out in less than 2 years).

I don't expect Nintendo to get what they actually need to do to succeed in this area.

The exact opposite of what they are currently doing.

I did read that they were not going to focus on online features at all... :(

They said in their E3 slot specifically that they were focusing on proper online support and hinted a lot at it being akin to Xbox Live.

Saying -- verbal communication

Doing -- accomplishing something, or at least trying to

I have generally never found alignment with my gaming style and Nintendo's ideas of gaming -- so I would not be surprised if their idea of online is nothing like I think it should be. There was an article on GI that stated that Nintendo seems to think that "Web browsing" is a key thing. The guy who wrote the article was actually nervous that Nintendo was missing the point. This is what I fear, that they actually fail to understand what people are asking.

I think the controller is stupid, I mean the thing is ten inches wide! Also touch screens are stupid, they get all smudged...
And the only games I've played where I liked the motion controls are little big planet, flower, and Wii sports.

All three mentioned are ones I have, and have enjoyed playing (Flower the most. Wii sports the least).).

I liked the motion controls in the first Force Unleashed game.

The motion controls are good. As are, surprisingly, most of the boss fights (after you completely are upgraded, you can actually experiment and feel quite the power trip). Now if the Raxus and Felucia npcs were not annoying; the levels had more variety, and they included actual platforming -- then I'd be satisfied.

MW3 is going to be on the Wii U... yet blockbuster series. The Wii U is starting to gain moment, if you ask me.

If people wanted to play Call of Duty they wouldn't have bought a Wii U.

Same here.

You got a point, but still, lots of serious developers are porting their current projects onto the system. The more hardcore games the merrier. Nintendo is gonna need it to get them out of their little financial tumble of theirs.

While I'm all for them finally realizing that "maybe, just maybe" they can't do almost everything on their own, I frankly question some things that I'm seeing announced (I'm frankly more curious about the new Bioshock game coming exclusively to the Vita). However, with that one space alien shooter, they appear to have gotten a very Overwatch gameplay bit. Now if they can make things like that that can blend RTS and Action, then they'll actually accomplish something.

From where I stand: Nintendo is still far from getting my attention.

Financial tumble? They're still pretty profitable.

They got shook up with the 3DS price cut. Major drops in stock. A report from Game Informer said that they would be loosing money with each unit sold. I'd call that a little financial hiccup.

The 3DS went backwards so far (meaning not living up to their plans). They tried to fix it by adding some booster to the sales using the price cut. That people hold back buying in the mean time is logic. If you had the plan to get one you definitely won't buy a week earlier if you know a sale is around the corner. If though they get higher sales due to the price cut has to be shown in the weeks to come. A super-price-cut is an economical move which can work out in two ways. Either it cashes in or it falls through. The outcome is 50/50. So let's see what straw they pull out of this gamble.

They're still profiting massively - it is a fact, and you can find all this information yourself. They may well have dropped ~40% post-tsunami disaster, but that still brings them out way on top of Sony, who are reporting colossal losses this year, not profits.

I actually seem to remember (from the exact same magazine as x3nu quotes) them saying Sony also managed to pull off some profits in a few areas. They have some serious losses, yes, but they also (percentage wise on things like console sales and games) are actually increasing in purchase,
