Backstory: Back in the early 2000s, my Bro and I used to get together on weekends and have LAN parties. Life happened and it's been some time since we did that. VALVe software just had a big spring sale that my Bro told me about this past month and we all got on steam and bought bundles of all our old games to play. We're going to start doing the LANS again. However, since the internet has grown, rather than run a server locally, Figured out how to build a docker container with Quake III server inside that we are going to host online in the cloud. Our very own cloud based private Quake III Arena server!!! And we all can just play from home. That brings us to my MOD. Ideally what I'd like to do is hijack the built in Quake server selection screen and add an additional Tab where you would go and it would list the IP and port of your Private server(s) that you could choose from. That way you don't have to remember an IP and port to connect to and you could share that with friends and they could easily join the Frag fest. Second way to implement is to have a favorites list added to the screen where you manual type in an IP and port. (or even a type ahead drop down) Then you could just click and choose. 3rd way: Run it through a proxy server and hijack the http/udp requests when its searching and displaying public Quake Servers and when that's engaged. Just serve up the info to your private servers instead. |
