I don't see why Sony wouldn't make one, its making them money and selling just fine. They've sold over 50 million Worldwide, sure that isn't as good as Nintendo ds's 100 million; but its a nice start. The PSP2 will probably fix most of the problems with the currant PSP, better controls, high res touch screen, more ram, a better processor and for the love of go; a new menu O.o.
I have a psp slim and a DS lite, I use my PSP a hell of alot more then the DS. I'm not much of a fan of brain age to be perfectly honest, I'd rather play a real game. Mind you, I might be a bit biased as my indie project is focus mainly on the PSP. Fact is, there's tons of AAA games on the PSP.
At the end of the day I'd happily buy a PSP2, even if it was slightly over priced (I spent a bit much on my launch PSP).
Edit:
Did some research on meta critic.
Number of games rated over 90
DS - 5
PSP - 1
Games rated 80 - 90
DS - 71
PSP - 65
Games rated 70 - 80
DS - 161
PSP -130
Sure the DS has more better games, but the PSP does have good games. Now for the flip side of things.
Games rated under 50
DS - 93
PSP - 41
Conclusion, DS has more good games , but a hell of alot more bad games then the PSP.
yeah because of the shovelware on it, the ds has some very amazing games on it.

Aye.
I was mainly going against this statement, it's a bit unfair.

That statement is about the lack of 3rd party developers for the system. The sales of the DS alone make a good investment for anyone wanting to make games in today's hand-held market. Think about it like this, DS currently holds the largest audience who basicly consumes this stuff (games), so having a choice to make games for the second best hand-held by sales or going for one that has a larger audience therefore a larger consumer base your going to pick the one with more monies every time.
So by saying "Do they plan on making decent games for it?" I'm saying how many publishers plan on using the UMD free system? And are the currently 3rd party publishers going to stop creating existing titles for UMD? Is the UMD going to become the Mini-CD?

By your logic, Wii games should be selling alot more games then xbox 360. Larger install base, larger sales for third party ?
Top ten selling wii games :
Wii Top 10 best selling Wii games
- Wii Sports (30.87 million) (September 2008)
- Wii Play (16.15 million) (September 2008)
- Mario Kart Wii (9.53 million) (September 2008)
- Wii Fit (8.76 million) (September 2008)
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl (7.47 million) (September 2008)
- Super Mario Galaxy (6.1 million) (March 2008)
- Mario Party 8 (4.86 million) (March 2008)
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (4.52 million) (March 2008)
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (3.4 million) (March 2008)
- Link's Crossbow Training (2.75 million) (September 2008)
All first party.
Xbox 360 list :
- Halo 3 (8.1 million) (January 2008)
- Gears of War (4.7 million, may include PC version) (January 2009)
- Grand Theft Auto IV (4.074 million approximately: 2.7 million in US, 750,000 in UK, 34,000 in Japan)
- Gears of War 2 (4 million) (January 2009)
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (3.772 million approximately: 3.04 million in US, 78,000 in Canada, 53,501 in Japan)
- Call of Duty: World at War (3.35 million) (January 2009)
- Forza Motorsport 2 (2.274 million approximately: 2.23 million in US, 31,255 in Japan, 12,600 in Canada)
- Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (2.08 million in US) (December 2008)
- Guitar Hero II (2 million in North America and Western Europe)
- Saints Row (2 million) (June 2008)
Sales figures might not be so high, but from a third party perspective, I'd make a game for the 360 as 3rd party games sell better. Of course it depends what type of game.
Thats an arguement for a whole other day.
This is the same case for DS and PSP. First party games sell insanely well on the DS but 3rd party don't sell all that good.
DS sales:
- Nintendogs (18.67 million)
- Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (14.77 million)
- New Super Mario Bros. (14.16 million)
- Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! (12.98 million)
- Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day! (10.83 million)
- Mario Kart DS (10.45 million)
- Animal Crossing: Wild World (9.53 million)
- Super Mario 64 DS (6.12 million)
- Big Brain Academy (5.01 million)
- The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (4.13 million)
What a surprise, all are first party games. Now the PSP, the figures are no were near as good, but the list has alot more 3rd party games.
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (4.5 million)
- Daxter (2.3 million)
- Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (2.15 million)
- Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (2.142 million in Japan)
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (1.956 million approximately: 1.83 million in US, 125,507 in Japan)
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (1.25 million approximately: 800,000 in Japan, 450,000 in North America)
- Monster Hunter Freedom (1.15 million)
- Need for Speed Most Wanted 5-1-0 (1.047 million approximately: 1.02 million in US, 27,151 in Japan)
- Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (1 million)
- Tekken: Dark Resurrection (1 million)
I'm not sure about how third party would like a UMD-free system, but Sony announced Patapon 2 being PSN exclusive. Maybe testing how well it'll sell, and I'm sure "IF" it sells well third party would be alot more confiendet using a UMD-free system.

Ah your missing the point, It dont matter how many sales they make its about the amount of shovel ware on both the DS and the Wii because of that though process.

The reason why I like my PSP and will never buy a DS is clearly evident in this list. DS games are very immature. I've outgrown mario, pokemon, and nintendogs... These games are something I'd buy a 5 year old. My 22 year old brother has a DS, for christmas I went to the store and tried to find a good DS game for him. Instead I ended up seeing the shelves filled with complete garbage games and could not find anything he would like (enter... The Gift Card).
While on the PSP list of games I actually enjoy and have ALL of those games. That is more than enough good games for me.
Also having developed on a PSP, I find that it is a great step forward for homebew.

@GiffE
If you think Mario is a kids game just because of the visuals, you are a fool - Mario is some of the best designed gameplay in the world, and on the harder levels often some of the most hardcore, too.
Pokemon and Nintendogs are pap though

I completely ...disagree. Mario games have always been the games I've looked forward to the most. Mario is, and my possibly always be, the best designed gameplay for a platform game.
But this post isn't about any of that, its about the news of the PSP GO! (Aka psp 2). Even more games are on there way with the recent annoucnement of Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny it looks like the PSP is still fighting.
1UP wrote: Sources confirm the next PSP will gain an internal flash drive, ditch UMD, and nix the rumored second analog nub.
Rumors of a major PSP hardware redesign have repeatedly bubbled to the surface over the last several months -- some claiming the removal of the system's UMD disc drive, and others pointing to a second analog stick and sliding screen. According to sources directly involved with the new system, we have learned that Sony will quell those rumors by unveiling their revamped PSP at this year's E3 conference in June.

I hope the UMD-less PSP Go doesn't kill UMD, otherwise I won't be able to get games. I can never figure out how to get that PSN working.

It's funny how you all complain about handhelds on a modding website and miss the most obvious solution that my friends have been doing for over a year: MODDING! All of my friends who own a PSP have hacked it and don't even run PSP games they run SNES, N64, and PS emulators on it while a lot of my friends with a DS use an R4 and put music and other multimedia so they don't need a MP3 or other device with them.
Oh yes and DS only lacks good games because they don't get released outside of Japan.

Again (as I'm sure its been said); my main complaint about the PSP2/PSP Go, is this. No, Second, Analog, Stick. There are a good 5-10, maybe 15, games that could be -so- much better for the classic PSP, if it had a second analog stick.

My thoughts on the PSP:
I had a PSP before, and the only game worth having on it was LocoRoco. Seeming on how a PSP 2 would probably ditch the project with no Backwards-compatibility (See PS2 and PS3) Then I wouldn't buy it.

You can play PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3, as well as download/buy PS1 games to play directly off of the hard-drive.
