Is it possible to make a mod where you are able to fly dragons?
The engine is problaby not designed for it, but is there a coder out there who has the power to make it work?

I would like to make a mod like this, is there anyone out there with a little experience who are willing to help me?

Thanks for taking time to read my post.

I'm almost positive that would be impossible to do. A levitation mod was hard enough, and that alone was pretty "sloppy" I heard.

Theoretically the dragon would be a "Horse" ( as they are mountable ). Getting the thing to levitate should work, I mean, the gargoyles out there ( i guess those are gargs, right? ) can levitate too so perhaps there could be scavenged some code from it.

That said I have though no idea about oblivion at all, just poked at the TES tool and played around with a couple of things.

How about a dragon like the ones in golden AXE... I think they might of been baby dragons..anyway... basically fast horses that breath fire and headbutt/ram enemy...very cool!

Golden Axe you say... do you think it is worthy of being in the 150 must play list?

Mr.Kadish clearly knows his stuff!...2p on it with bro when younger could not be beaten for fun factor, even by chocolate.. (both...)

Definately worthy of being on the list in my book (esp with a direct link!)..it brings back so many memories for me of my tastes when I was little...it's my childhood summed up really. If a couple more people go "OHH golden axe!" ...or something to that effect, please slap it in there.

It might be possible to do. A quick look at the TES IV Construction Set Wiki (very sketchy, but better than nothing) shows this command:
Cs.elderscrolls.com

I suppose if you were to brute-force the position of the player you could do it. It would take a LOT of computational power, however, especially if you want to make the movement seem smooth (much less fast). In other words, theoretically possible, but I suspect that in practice it would do Bad Things to system performance (which, in the case of Oblivion, isn't good to start with).

Too bad it most likely can't be done :( I would be amazing to get to fly around the prettiful world in Oblivion.

The brute force thing might just work... I'm going to learn a little bit more about using the set and other tools, then we'll see what happens.

Have a good one.

The bigger problem would be loading times though. Flying with a dragon you are up for higher traveling speed ( higher than a horse ) and then you could end up with a loading break every couple of seconds. Like mentioned the engine is resource hungry. A grounded dragon ( beeing just a horse replacement with some kick in it ) would be possible for sure but an airborne one can be heavy but still doable.

Please just don't "reuse" the gargoyle wings like many did for their "pseudo-dragon" races :P

Well, if you remember SoulKeeper, you could go waaaay off the ground on top of the dragon, almost to the point where the buildings below are tiny dots. The only difference is that, of course, those were huge environments. In Oblivion's case, like Dragonlord mentioned, unless you have a computer with a fast processor, you'll definitely feel plenty of slowdown, and since the specs for Oblivion are much. much higher than Unreal Tournament 2004's, it'd make it much harder to keep up.

It'd still be a great project to add a bunch of different mounts to Oblivion, though. You'd find something like that to be pretty popular. ;)
