but then any updates to the DB will be lost, unless INtense! has pointed the DB to the IP of the new server.. which would explain why image updates are off... you sneaky bugger. |

if he points his DB connect to the new server, all database traffic goes to that regardless of the location of the actual script, meaning all he does is wait for a couple of days then set it back to localhost (or whatever he connects to) |

Was the downtime for backing up the DB? and if so where are the new posts, mods and so on being stored until then? Will they just be dumped onto the new server when the switch happens... -- Why wont it save me? |

the mysql server doesn't have to be localhost. if the copy of the site on mannaroth had the mysql server set to a port on the new server then any database updates would be on the new one. |

I see, so you just backed up, then when the sites back up you transfered the backup to the new server, then when its done the DNS is updated to goto the new server?
