Hello. Good day all, hope you all doing great.
I would like to suggest torrent support on this website, due to (as of 10/01/2022) servers are overloaded due to the popularity of a mod and a modpack (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly and a modpack that works inside of it, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GAMMA).
I believe this issue could be solved with a per mod torrent support.
Using a torrent system alongside the serverhost system could solve many issues and potentially save a lot of money for moddb. I know bandwith is VERY expensive specially in certain locations. Using torrents makes the bandwith cost go away due to every downloader being a potential contributor to the bandwith.
There are trackers on torrents to regulate leechers and the same ones could be used to add +1 download to the modpage that the mod is being downloaded.
Torrents can be set to use *UTP* and be *encrypted* for enchanced security and people can freely leave the seeder mode if they want to.
I feel bad for torrents to be on the state of being associated with piracy, but that's not the purpose of torrents. Is like saying Google Drive is a piracy platform.
Summary(or TL;DR i guess):
- Torrent can save money on bandwith expenses.
- Torrent can solve the server overload issues.
- Native support of it means the possibility of modders getting their +1 on the download.
- It could be optional and also used alongside the serverhost mode.
- It could be added the option of the modder disabling the torrent option if they don't feel supporting it, but in doing so it will not contribute on avoiding server overload.
PD: I know this post is on the tech support category but i don't know how to change it, sorry.
