PIP (n):
Picture-in-Picture, used commonly on TV's, and some games such as Eradicator. Weapons Factory Arena (q3A) uses PIP for Assassin's camera. This effect is rather easy to do in OpenGL.
Half-Life Limitations:
22KHz 16bit mono WAVs, 8-bit palleted textures and sprites, 16bit color, easy to hack.

Engine ( n/a ):
The underlying code used for the most basic of game functions, such as 3D translation. Common example is the Half-Life engine, which can be altered by changing the DLLs.
Netcode ( n ):
The code allowing one player to connect to another, or to a server, and hence play a game in multiplayer. Can often be changed in a mod to improve network performance.

Build engine (n):
Popular sector-based engine with an awesome (crashy with SBLive) sound system, great netcode (playable on 14k modem with 8 others), loads of sector effectors (rotating trains), and no framerate cap, did I mention the low memory usage? It made it's debut in January 1996 with Duke Nukem 3D. You can get the Build source code from Ken Silverman's Official Web page.

Voxel ( n/a ):
The 3D equivalent of a pixel, and an alternative to polygons in an engine. Instead of having only height and width (i.e. a pixel on a screen) a voxel has depth, meaning it can be built with to achieve the same effects polygons do in common engines. Will require a change to underlying engine code to be used in most games.
