Is there something easier? Thread

I had been using Wings 3D for some model making for games like Freelancer and a few other. I have the models, but I'm having some problems with the modeling software's texturing. I had also tried Blender, but that makes it just as confusing. It there a GPL license program that allows the user to see the model and texturing while they're "Painting" on? I only have solid colors for them, as a concept for the texture itself. Is there one like I discribed or something easier to texture with?

I find Blender 2.49 pretty easy. I still use it because it's got better exporters for what I need, plus I like the UI better.

It does the texture painting too.
