Hey guys, I got a question. I am developing a Quake one total conversion , Solitude, it was brought to my attention that since its a total conversion and you won't need quake to play it is that consider an indie game ? I always thought that indie games were basically a game that was made by guys that we not getting paid for it and sold it, as Solitude is obviously going to be free and is standalone does that make it an indie game ? Usually standalone makes it indie. To be indie does not require to make pay titles. You can also have free titles in between. |

if it's 100% separate from Quake 1 (as in you don't even need a Quake install to run it) then it would be considered a GAME. But if you need Q1 at all (anything from id1 folder) OR you need the quake.exe to run it, then it's a mod. Could also be considered a mod *IF* you can run it with the stock quake.exe & not just a 3rd party engine. But "total conversion" is a misconception: a TC has many things that aren't changed. One being the engine! -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

Well, you won't need the quake installed to play it. We are using a modified quake engine (That we obviously edited ourselves, not using dark places, etc) About the total conversion. We are changing alot of code to make the mod/game to feel nothing like quake, when we archive that we start adding. At the end of the day its a completely standalone game which will be -notice this word ;P- trying - that word - to change everything artistically and gamecode (QC, not the engine, we might as well be making our own engine if that was the case. ) Verditct, indie game. -- ''Just as planned!'' - Light, Deathnote. |

Actually thats more correctly a standalone project. You can call it Independent or Standalone though. Are you going to move to the 'games' section, then? Edited by: JustDaveIsFine |

I don't have a glue. It doesn't feel right for some reason. ;/ -- ''Just as planned!'' - Light, Deathnote. |

Well if you do move to the 'Games' section, you'll be neglected by every mod around. Hence the point of Indie Devs, which is in my sig. The plan worked. Ish. I'm going to need to get a lot more indie projects in the spotlight though. Hey. Your standalone now. Interested in an interview or something? |

Neglected, I think not. The reason most indie games are neglected si the fact they are usually to busy making the game instead of releasing weekly updates that are frontage worthy, the fact not alot of indie games were voted was simply because there are so few. I think I might change over to the (Drum roll please) Game section. About the interview, I don't see why not. Edit: I just remember that Overdose started off with the quake two engine and are now classed as an indie game. Edited by: Samuk |

Yeah. OverDose is a standalone project. For a long time they never switched over because they were rather confused on the situation. |

If they are a indie game that means solitude is, I'll be asking an admin to swap me over from indie to mod. Who should I ask ?
Sure thing ! Edited by: Samuk |
