Their marketing schemes say otherwise. You look at their marketing campaigns, and it's really clear that Nintendo are after a completely different demographic than MS and Sony. A "Wiimote+better graphics" system wouldn't interest Nintendo's market (hardware would be too expensive) and the wiimote hasn't proven itself to the hardcore crowd enough for MS or Sony to care. Sony tried Sixaxis, and so far it's been a novelty at best and outright sucky at worst for the sort of games PS3 owners typically play. I doubt a full-on wiimote style device would fare much better. Credit Crunch or not, fanbois need their top-end hardware so they can indulge in the endless e-penis competitions they can't do without The priorities are completely opposite, so you can't satisfy both markets with the same hardware. Thus, short of one or more companies jumping markets entirely Sony/MS are not going to be in direct competition with Nintendo. -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |
