Hello everybody, I just joined this community as I got into game developer. I'm still very much a noob but I really want to share this one-page design document I made for my first project.
To summarize it all, it is a third-person RPG in which each quest tells a whole story; therefore the game will have an emphasis in a storytelling as dynamic as possible.

In the following design document I will explain the game loop, the main character, the setting, the unique selling points and the audience and platform.

Stories Of Arrabrea

Game Loop

The player explores the world and discovers new places; eventually they will find someone who will give them a quest, if they accept it it will be unlocked on the world. Several obstacles will interpose between the player and their goal; they will have to explore, solve puzzles and defeat their enemies until they beat the final obstacle; after reaching their goal, they will be given a reward.

Main Character

It is a blank character that will portray the players emotions through interaction. However, the main character does have a background: they are an ex-member of a disbanded order of warriors brutally trained for combat against humans and beasts. At the beginning of the game, the player will be given an opportunity to choose a class, being able to have an affinity for hand-to-hand combat, stealth, magic or being polyvalent but not specialized on anything.

Setting

The story takes place in Arrabrea, a continent birthplace to the great Biperion civilization formed by the Elves, Dwarfs, and Humans; but with all the advancements they have made, life outside of the cities walls is hard and short. Beasts prey on villagers and attack their homes; furthermore, the excessive and uncontrolled use of magic has brought anomalies and with them, strange, magic monsters. Only highly skilled warriors could take on the beasts of the wild and untamed world outside of the cities.

Unique Selling Points

  • Open-world.
  • Challenging and intense combat leaning in the use of strategies.
  • Deep world story
  • Quests tell a story
  • Detailed environments that have a background
  • Dynamic narrative
  • Character progression
  • Dialogue tree
Genre: RPG, Action.
Platform: PC.
Audience: Men and women; 15+ years old; “Explorer” type.

I'm a huge fan of fantasy/medieval-themed RPGs, and your project seems to fit the bill. Worlds roamed by Elves, Dwarfs, Humans and their evil monster enemies are exciting to me. But that's like EVERY RPG. As said, not a problem for me, but it might be for others. So your USP really is "quests telling a whole story". Quests in RPGs are often shallow and I would like deeper story-like quests, but I'm not sure what you mean by that exactly.

Add fractions with reputation table.
Add opportunity to build villages.
Add universal enemy to all factions, so that all has to unite against evil horde.
Add ambushes as alternate missions.
Add plenty of crafting possibilities.
Add Underworld, for exploration and mining.
Add opportunity that player action actually change the world in both ways.
Extend that and call us to see how those likes.
