Tired of having to find mods via there mod id? I certainly know I am. Which is why I coded in a nifty new little feature. (it shall get even niftyer shortly) but until then read the full story here: Moddb.com Basically now you can go Moddb.com For example, to find one of cheapies quake mods, instead of looking it up if you knwo the name is cheaphack for example then you just go Moddb.com and it should locate it Some other examples Sweet eh? - Edited By INtense! Okay, now imagine this: When you go to a forum page, moddb checks through and creates links for all recognised mentions of mods! So if I type: Blah blah blah blah counterstrike blah Then moddb would automatically 'counterstrike' a link to Counter-Strike's profile!

Ok, now while what you mention there is a great idea Seien, and to be honest it would not be impossible to code what happens if there were two mods with similar names, like counter-strike and counter-striking. I think you would be pretty pissed if it linked to the wrong place. -- Scott Reismanis |

Good feature As for SA's idea, although it wouldnt work perfectly itd be pretty awesome even if buggy. -- Why wont it save me? |

Yeah true. But at the same time...wouldn't someone who was talking about counterstriking write it as such, and someone who was referring to counterstrike spell it that way [or as CS]? They are two different terms, wouldn't it still work? |

SA idea is c00l, u can use it like the smilies, give an option to mod leaders to choose a short name for their mod that will be used as a smile, when u type that, you have the word linked, and the same if you write the exact full name of the mod. -- Alucard Death to false Metal |

Ok, I suppose I better explain the SDK since seien and a few others have asked about it... Basically it is a kit for web developers who show mods on there site for example. Like say your site is gamespy and you list all these modifications right? Now chasing up details for them all would be a damn pain. So what you do is basically borrow such information from the modDB. You will have 100% control over the look of a mods profile from the commenting system to the mods name. All the SDK shall provide is detailed help on how to utilise this system on both the modDB and your websites side. It will also provide certain images you are free to use or edit, which should prove handy. The real beauty of this system is that it will work into this find mod feature. Like it would be a pain to have to go Modtemplate.moddb.com to show the counter strike mod, as for every single mod you wanted to display you would have to know the mods ID. Instead you can go Moddb.com and it shall display the counter-strike mod, using the gamespy template. Therefore they could easily incorpoarte such a system into there entire website. This SDK will be limited to authorised affiliates only, and it shall be extremely powerful Any further questions please ask. Otherwise a alpha demo for anyone interested will hopefully be available! -- Scott Reismanis |

Can I have a crack at the alpha when it's available? The more people who understand it on release the better, I think... Thoughts on this:

hmmm, hes right there, Gamespy would probably tell all there hosted sites to use their template on modDB. Anyway, sweet idea -- Why wont it save me? |

Nah I was just using gamespy as an example, and it will only be available to those authorised, and crediting the modDB is ESSENTIAL be that only a minor link at the bottom of the page, saying 'Content courtesy of modDB' for example. To show you how sites will use it, I will explain how this one site 'xsgamers' shall be using this system. You see they run a server query website. Like people can see who is playing on any game server in the world, regardless of mod etc.. now where the modDB comes in, is for this site to provide details on every single mod played around it be damn near impossible. Hence they will just go Moddb.com and voila they will have all the info they need to show, and it will be formatted in there conventions not the modDB. I hope this explains it all -- Scott Reismanis |

And presently the system is not really aims at allowing mods to customise their profile layouts, only sites wishing to tap into the modDB data. And rest assured only approved sites will be allowed such content, to ensure that modDB remains the definative mod resource -- Scott Reismanis |

All bases covered then, get to coding? How long will it take or is it virtually done? -- Why wont it save me? |

Well i could get it done in a day, but I just recieved an urgent (paid) coding job so it has taken front seat. Having said that, the template system is virtually complete, just need to code the modDB backend now -- Scott Reismanis |
