Installation guide to help you install the modification.

Welcome to Tzarmod and New Terrains. If you need help installing the mod please read the following or post a comment.

Manual Install

Manual is simply referring to an unpacked install. It's called manual because it's a bit more hands-on than the packed install in the sense that you'll be overwriting files a lot.

Steps:

  1. Unzip the mod and go to the Manual Install folder.
  2. The main mod is typically DATA, IMAGES, and LOCAL.
  3. Copy these three folders to the Tzar main directory.
  4. (Optional) Go to *\Manual Install\Patches and copy any patches you want. Be sure to select the root DATA folder when copying.
  5. (Optional Cont'd) Go to the Tzar directory and paste the patch; overwrite when asked.
  6. The game is ready to play.

Packed Install

Packed install has the same files as the manual install but they're packed into wdt files. Probably the simplest method of installing the mod but might need extra steps to initially setup.

Steps:

  1. Delete or remove DATA, IMAGES, and LOCAL from the Tzar main directory. (Those directories supersede packs in Tzar's load order.)
  2. (Optional) GOG users have to follow this step. Create a folder in the Tzar directory called "Packs".
  3. Unzip the mod and go to the Packs folder.
  4. You should see some folders and a pack file that starts with an x_. This x_ pack is the main mod. Copy it.
  5. Paste that pack into the Packs folder in the Tzar directory.
  6. (Optional) Go into any of the patch folders and you should see packs called either y_ or z_ packs. Be sure to take note of the readme files and folder names as they usually say what they're compatible with.
  7. (Optional) Copy those packs and paste into the Packs folder.
  8. The game is ready to play.

Load Order

This is for educational purposes but you might still find this useful.

Tzar has load order priorities similar to Skyrim or Fallout 4. Tzar's load order behaves like this:

  1. Reads Data 1.
  2. Reads Data 2, overwrites any data that doesn't match Data 1.
  3. Reads Data 3, overwrites any data that doesn't match Data 1 and Data 2.

Tzar starts from the top and goes down, anything at the end of the load order takes highest priority. It overwrites anything above it in the load order.

Here is Tzar's load order:

  1. Tzar.exe (hidden packs in the exe are read first)
  2. Packs (packs in the Packs folder are read second)
  3. Folders (DATA, IMAGES, LOCAL, etc are read last)

As you can see, folders take highest priority in the load order. This is why it's important to delete or remove those folders if you're doing a packed install.

Pack Load Order

Packs have their own little load order system which behaves in the same way. Packs are read top to bottom and last pack takes highest priority. It's no different from the main load order.

And that's it, I hope you found this useful.
