Post feature Report RSS Mod jam, who's in?

The upcoming global game jam got us thinking... wouldn't it be cool to run a mod jam!? Let's break this down.

Posted by on

Very occasionally the stars align, and the team here at ModDB come up with an idea we believe worth exploring. In this case we were thinking about:

And it occurred to us, wouldn't it be awesome to run a mod jam of some kind. The challenge of course being picking a game to mod and what to make... but what better than a DOOM level? It is rather accessible, anyone can play the outcome using awesome mods like Skulltag or Zdaemon, there are good tools and it won't take an insane amount of time.

We were thinking of running it here plus at an event like Rezzed, and wanted to hear your reaction. Are we crazy or is this just kickass and has to be done!?

As someone who loves playing oldskool games with friends... I am 100% onboard!

Oh, so is the challenge simply to create a Doom level?
Not totally sure I'd like to participate (no Doom experience, sadly, likely not enough time to learn), but I'd definitely love to see how the modern community's creativity works in a classic game!

I modded Doom levels probably 15 years ago, and whilst I have no recent experience - I believe it is fairly accessible for anyone to try.

I'd be on board for this.

Currently getting the ground work done for a DOOM star wars mod so this will be fun.

I'm of the "just kickass and has to be done" camp please and thank you. :)

Yeah you's should and don't forgot to include Doom 3 as a option, Some other places disregard Doom 3 in almost the way that it's not a official Doom game :(

I would not say that, but I think that Doom 3 is not as widely owned as Doom is and are we talking the original or BFG edition? That is where the controversy lies as well ^_^.

I'd say BFG edition should be included as well thanks to RBDoom3 and the other mod launcher tool

Doom 3's expansion Resurrection of evil and Final Doom are the real distance cousins of Doom but are very much part of the family,

I think if you can get a map done in time for any of the Doom games it should be included.

Note i've left out Doom 64 because it really wasn't on the pc but there is good remakes called Doom64 EX and Doom64 Absolution for the PC
But there even could be a map pack released for the Actual Doom64 that could run through a emulator on the pc or through a everdrive for the Nintendo64 if that was done then it should be included as well :D

That sounds cool with me and I have to say the more content the merrier :) Actually my initial though was based on my computer not being able to run Doom 3 ^_^' and I have heard that people had issues running mods such as Brutal DooM and Project Brutality with their computers.
I need to buy myself a graphics card so I can play Doom3.

Yeah, I have an imbedded graphics card (Intel) and when I tried to play the DooM3 demo I was unable to do so ^_^

Try downloading the drivers directly from Intel. I got an old Intel integrated to work some OGL games that way.
