Can I install WW4 Extended without the installer?

Yes, you can. Zip files with all the required files are always supplied when a full version or patch is released.

You can find those zip files in the following threads in the BIS forums:

Do I need to download vanilla WW4 separately?

No, that's not needed. The installer for WW4 Extended already includes vanilla WW4 patched to 2.5.1. When you run the installer you'll be able to chose to install also WW4 if you haven't installed already.

Once installed, you'll have several shortcuts to launch the mod, including one to launch vanilla WW4 only.

But if you want to use zip files instead of the installer you can download them from here:

Is the Steam version supported?

Yes, it is. You can launch the game with the mod applied by using the shortcut generated by the installer (unless you unchecked the option). In case you didn't know, you don't need to first open Steam in order to play Arma: Cold War Assault, but shortcuts to launch the mod from within Steam should also be available in the desktop and programs folder, if the destination folder you chose during the installation was that of Steam.

If for some reason you want to play from within Steam but without using the provided shortcuts, then follow this steps:

  1. In your games list right click on Arma: Cold War Assault and select Properties.
  2. In the Properties window click on the SET LAUNCH OPTIONS... button.
  3. Write this in the text field:
    -nosplash -mod=@ww4mod25;WW4_EXT

    1. If you installed other modules, you'll have to add them too:
      1. With vehicles:
        -nosplash -mod=@ww4mod25;WW4_EXT;WW4_EXT_VEH
      2. With the Cold War module:
        -nosplash -mod=@ww4mod25;WW4_EXT;WW4_EXT_VEH;WW4EXT_CW
      3. With the Arctic module:
        -nosplash -mod=@ww4mod25;WW4_EXT;WW4_EXT_VEH;WW4EXT_CW;WW4EXT_ARCTIC
  4. Click OK. Click Close. Click Play.

Does it work with the old OFP?

Yes, it does. The installer should detect OFP automatically and use the correct installation path. The generated shortcut should properly point to the FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.exe in this case. If for some reason the path to your OFP installation isn't shown correctly you can still browse your hard drive and select the folder where you have OFP installed, and then proceed as normal.

There's now an OFP compatible version of the previously conflicting pbo (ww4ext_inf_cfg.pbo). If OFP is detected, the default pbo is automatically replaced with the compatible version during the installation process.

What is Fwatch and where can I get it?

You might notice that when using some features, like the WW4 Extended menu, it checks for something called Fwatch. This external program isn't required, but it's used in WW4 Extended to provide keyboard shortcuts to some of its features. Using it or not is entirely up to you. If you don't use it, then you have to activate those features through the actions menu.

Fwatch is a program extending Operation Flashpoint's (and CWA's) scripting functionality. It creates a hook on file operations. When the game attempts to open a file with a special name, Fwatch takes over. It's able to perform a variety of operations (like reading/writing text, processing strings, utilizing WINAPI) and send new data back to the game.

Where can I get it?

You can always find the latest version of Fwatch in this page.

How to use it?

There's two ways to use it:

  • Hard working way: Create a new shortcut to launch OFP or CWA by using the Fwatch exe and then edit the target field in the shortcut to add the appropriate -mod line (see how above) to launch WW4 Extended. Now, use this new shortcut to lauch the game.
  • Lazy way (my way): Just add -nolaunch to the target field of the Fwatch shortcut. Now you just need to launch Fwatch (and don't clik OK in the window that pops up, just leave it there) and launch WW4 Extended as normal (with the shortcuts created by the installer or your own, if you installed it with the zip files). Once you're done with playing, close the game and then press the OK button of the Fwatch window to close Fwatch.
