Post feature Report RSS Doom 3 Simple Widescreen

Just a little description on how I came about doing this little mod.

Ok, so first things first: I'm not really a modder. I do appreciate some mods, especially when they involve quality of life changes or hilarious stuff like the laughtracks in Skyrim. However, I have never created even a single map for Doom 3, nor anything like that. I'm sort of an Unreal guy, so that editor looks like absolute gibberish to me.

That said, I've been involved with the classic Doom community over the years, and am a bit of a nazi with screen resolutions and pixel-perfect stuff. I absolutely hate stretched pixels, or like those indie games that decide to do pixel art but have no respect for pixel ratios and start farting particles of different sizes everywhere in their game.

Anyways, I'm also not a big fan of Doom 3 BFG. I got it recently for the Xbox One and it just made me want to play the original, so I got it on PC and, surprise surprise: the UI doesn't properly scale when you play the game in widescreen. Now, even though I'm a bit of a purist, I do enjoy playing games in widescreen when there's support, and there is support in Doom 3, even though it involves editing some files.

Well, so I'm on PC where you can mod stuff, and here I come, browse every single page of moddb and can't find a single mod that does just what I want, which is to fix the widescreen UI. I keep looking and then a friend recommends me this Redux mod, which supposedly fixes lots of stuff, including the widescreen resolution thingy.

So I download the mod and starting messing around the files, and voilá: I find a way to change just the UI and nothing else, via importing some files to the Doom 3 root directory and picking the new found mod from the Mods list.

And that's all I did. I created NOTHING, and I can't emphasize that enough. All I did was pick up some files from the Redux mod, isolate them and make them work by themselves, which took me about 10mins of work. I'm just releasing this for ease of access, really.

So that's it. If you're a pedantic ass like me and just want to play in widescreen whilst having your game otherwise untouched, this is what you're looking for, hopefully.
