It’s nearly time, almost harvesting season some might say! That’s right, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord , the long awaited follow up to Mount & Blade: Warband is arriving on PC in early access on March 30th (it's now released in early access!.
We’re excited to start conquering new lands, cracking skulls (and drinking from them of course!) and jumping back into the incredible world of Calradia. Importantly though, is that the release of Bannerlord also falls on the 10th anniversary of the original launch of M&B: Warband!
We can’t wait to see all the improvements and new features that have been added to Bannerlord, but we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate this significant upcoming anniversary as well. To look back on some of the most popular and outstanding mods for Warband that have been released over the past decade on ModDB, and honor all the ongoing work by modders from all around the world.
Warsword Conquest
A Warhammer fantasy total conversion mod, Warsword Conquest lets you explore and conquer the Old World as a member of one of a dozen factions, including The Empire, Lizardmen, Tomb Kings, Dwarfs, Dark and High Elves and of course Chaos. Fight huge monsters, conquer hundreds of possible towns, castles and villages and lead armies of units and lords unique to each faction from one of the most in-depth fictional universes ever created.
Anno Domini 1257
A historically accurate mod set in medieval Europe, Anno Domini 1257 lets players shape the land and fight for supremacy and control of the European continent. Featuring dozens of factions, the ability to join crusades, fight off Mongol invasions, build castles and much more, AD 1257 stands out as one of the best medieval themed mods for M&B: Warband.
Perisno
A total conversion mod set in a rich fantasy world based in the fictional land of Perisno, filled with elves, dawerves, giants and many mythological creatures and magic. Battle and side with factions of all sizes, each with their own strengths and styles of play in the field of war. It’s a mod that gives you endless possibilities, as you would hope any fantasy world would, but one that keeps you on your toes throughout as it loves to throw the unexpected at you. It’s also incredibly close to hitting v1.0 after several years of work.
L’Aigle
Ever wanted to fight in the Napoleonic Wars, leading the French armies across Europe or as one of several other historic European factions attempting to stop the french empire? Well the total conversion mod L'Aigle set during the 1809 War of the Fifth Coalition would likely be the perfect M&B: Warband mod for you.
Campaign for the mastery of Europe on a massive and detailed map and utilize period-accurate battle formations and field artillery to control battlefields. The level of detail of L’Aigle is truly awe-inspiring, from the hundreds of historically correct uniforms, to several famous regiments such as the Old Guard, 95th Rifles and the Polish Lancers.
Full Invasion 2
Who doesn’t love a good ol horde mode? Well Full Invasion 2 is exactly that, but for Warband but with online co-op! Battle countless waves of invaders and bosses from a wide range of factions and aim to survive as long as possible. It’s been rated as one of the best multiplayer mods for Warband ever and is still getting updates, with v1.2 released in March.
Star Wars Bear Force II
Grab your lightsaber and blaster, as you’ll need them in huge sci-fi battles you’ll fight in the Star Wars multiplayer only tactical shooter mod Star Wars - Bear Force II. Consisting of 6 factions, a unique shooting and force system, as well as a wide variety of classes to fit different play-styles. From a normal infantry man to classes like sniper or heavy, or from jumping around as a Jedi/Sith using force jump to travelling large distances using a jet pack trooper. All of this packed into one of the most advanced multiplayer shooter mods for Warband.
Gekokujo
Fan of Japan or it’s rich unique history? Well Gekokujo is a Warband mod set in Japan during the Sengoku-period, or “The Age of Warring States", c. 1467 – c. 1615 Japan. Featuring many historically accurate clans, units and figures, Gekokujo lets you explore one of Japan’s most chaotic periods of history, and all through M&B: Warband. For those interested, Gekokujo is a Japanese term for overthrowing or surpassing one’s superiors. So more or less, start taking over Japan and defeating those lords who would stand in your way!
Rome At War
Perhaps the Romans take your fancy? A total conversion mod set in 300 B.C., 23 years after the death of Alexander the Great, Rome At War may give you your Roman era fix. Play on a custom map focused on Italy and Greece, across single and multiplayer modes and with several historically accurate factions, featuring Rome, the Greek League, The Celts, Macedon and more. Alexander the Great may long be dead, but that doesn’t mean you can’t romp around Greece as a Roman legionnaire.
Blood In The West
A fan of the Lord of the Ring movies? Then get ready to stomp across Middle-Earth in the Lord of the Rings themed Warband mod Blood in The West, set in during the Third age around the War of the Ring. Join one of 18 factions, from Orcs, To Elves, and Dwarves to Hobbits, and let blood be spilled without limits, and defeat your enemies with the strength of your arms and the might of your army!
A Clash Of Kings (Game Of Thrones)
How could we have a list of the best M&B: Warband mods without including at least one Game of Thrones themed mod in A Clash of Kings (Game of Thrones). Especially considering it’s not only one of the most popular mods for M&B: Warband, but also one of the biggest mods of all time on ModDB!
That’s right, fresh from winning an award from the ModDB 2019 Mod Of The Year Awards, A Clash Of Kings continues to be a household name among M&B: Warband mods into 2020. It not only enhances the gameplay and many elements of the native game, but recreates George R. R Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” epic fantasy series spectacularly and is a delight for any hardcore fan of the series.

How can you list 'Blood in the West' and not 'The Last Days of the Third Age'? BitW is an unfinished bugged mod while TLD is in development since over 13 years now irrc and is still getting constant updates
Hear, hear! BloodInTheWest is barely even a mod, while TLD is almost entirely a new game.

You wanted to seem like a cool underdog hipster by including several clearly inferior mods and omitting several of the best. Or you just have no clue what you're talking about and haven't played or really looked into any of them. Resulting in a crappy article and a complete waste of everyone's time just for a few ad bucks.
He literally says this is a list of SOME of the most popular mods. Just because he didn't include your favorite mod doesn't mean the ones in the list are superior. Why you gotta be such a sweaty nerd
i played every mod on this list except Warsword. PLayed many more mods and still play. North & South, Gabrilduro's mods (7 Years War,US Independence War, American Civil War). TLD Overhaul, Rising Sun, Bellum Imperii, Deus Vult (plus other crusaders mods), The Red Wars, Snow in the East, A World of Ice and Fire (of course), mods based on improving Native, and many more that im not remembering now
Yo warsword conquest is legit good. They are ready to put out another version where you can play as elite units like rat ogres!

As another option; title > picture > writing. That way the picture is in the middle of the section it is relevent too. Good article, glad to see all 3 of my favourite mods on the list (Warsword, Clash of Kings, L'Aigle) rather than the usual PoP (which is good and very polished, I just prefer other settings).
i'm impressed they added the dead and unfinished normal gekokujo instead of amazing aruda work Gekokujo - Daimyo Edition
except that the Aruda's version hasnt been updated since 2018, whereas the one linked had an update in 2019.
still it's a better version also the one that you are saying it's an unfinished and buggy sub mod :) last real gekokujo update was at Jul 20 2016
The 2019 "update" is only an addon by another mod author and not actually part of Gekokoju mod. The last actual update for Gekokoju was in 2016. Daimyo Edition is 100% the superior version at the moment.
The last days (TLD) was a masterpiece. How could blood in the west possibly be better?
We definitely aren't saying any mod is better than another with this list or directly comparing them! It was based on a combination of things; popularity on ModDB, having a nice variety and prioritising mods mad specifically for Warband.

Got to list my personal favorites:
CRPG (the old online one) \ Red Wars 2 (a little goofy, but just plain fun) \ BannerPage (its the definitve experience imo) \ Conquest of might and magic (one of the only playthroughs where I took over entire kingdoms) \ The Last Days..
Might seem random, as I haven't played some of the know best.
I'd have to say though, TLD is by far my favorite. I remember waiting so long for its (kinda) final release. Had a bunch of people over to download and play together. Good memories.

Here is a mod that everyone should try: Chronicles of Might & Magic.
Even if they have never played Heroes of Might and Magic III.
Also 16th Century, Phantasy Calradia, The Red Wars, Age of Sword & Sorcery.
And personally I think Middle Earth at War is a better fully sandbox LOTR mod than Blood in the West.
No A World of Ice and Fire here, yet we had more visitors than all but one mod listed here and still managed to be the third most subbed mod on Steam Workshop. What kind of black sorcery is this? :o
Never you mind, good sir. Blood in The West is listed, but not TLD. Injustices abound, I suspect due to a lack of the author's actual experience with the mods. Which is understandable, I guess, but still objectionable.
A World of Ice and Fire mod DESERVES to be in the top 10 anniversary edition list by virtue of its merit, continued development, substantial number of downloads on both ModDb and Steam, and sustained popularity. It is a straight-up disgrace that it did not make the list. Not having A World of Ice and Fire mod, I believe, undermines the validity of the top 10 anniversary edition list and is a injustice.
Hey there, just to clarify no where in the article do we say this is a top 10 list of best mods of all time for Warband etc. It's just some of the best and most popular Warband mods on ModDB, and choose to make it a diverse list within that category.

Been playing warband and coming here for the best part of a decade and I never played warsword before reading this yesterday, heard of it, guess I needed that kick up the arse... thanks :p
L'Aigle was one of my favourites, didn't it get some unofficial update in 2018?
I know it may be difficult or hard ,but it would be nice for anyone to find a 10th anniversary pack containing most of the cool and gorgeous M&b warband mods into 1 go .rar or .zip pack
It is a rather sad list missing some of the nicest mods out there (PoP). You cannot know how good a mod is until you play it. Saying this both as an M&B player and a staff member who had absolutely no hand in the anniversary list...
But lord, the problem is more so that at least one of the listed mods is a flea-ridde..I mean, bug-ridden unfinished rarely-played mostly-Native-assets mod, instead of a far more loved-and-downloaded mod in the same identical theme/period/area-of-interest. Not being able to list all the good mods, I can understand, lord. But listing a rough mod in place of a very fine one, that I take umbrage at.
