Welcome to the Awards for 2013 Mod of the year, we are also announcing the winners of
IOTY 2013 Players Choice Upcoming & AOTY 2013 Players Choice: Upcoming.

Here is your line up the Top 5 Upcoming Mods of 2013

5. In Country: Vietnam

In Country: Vietnam is a brand-new, multiplayer first person TACTICAL SHOOTER being developed for the PC. It is a total conversion mod for both Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad and Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm. In Country: Vietnam marks the first time that the Red Orchestra series will depart from the battlefields of World War II by plunging players into the claustrophobic jungle environments of Vietnam. Players can expect to face all new dangers; from crossing deadly open rice fields or clearing rural villages beset with traps, to defending entrenched fire-base positions and more!

4: Jaykin' Bacon: Episode 3

Jaykin' Bacon: Episode 3 is our fan-made sequel to the original mod. JBEP3 combines ideas from more Half-Life 1 mods (Rocket Crowbar, PS07, and Scientist Hunt to name a few) and many original ideas of our own (such as the Dubstep Gun, Cat Mine, and the AX47). Almost all of the content from the original mod will be included as well.

3. I am the king!

What if the story did not end here? What if glory and power were awaiting you on a crossroad? It adds a new region with four cities, four strongholds and a gorgeous fortress. You’ll find in it many quests of all kind, which will allow you to rule this new kingdom and defend your status from all threats! Are you going to be dauntless enough to do it? Magic, war and conspiracy are awaiting you in this mod!

2. Enderal - The Shards of Orde

Enderal - The Shards of Order is a total conversion in development for Skyrim and the sequel to Nehrim: At Fate's Edge by SureAI. The story of Enderal is not set in the Elder Scrolls world of Tamriel, but takes place in its own universe, creating a new, interesting world completely unrelated to Skyrim with a complex, dark storyline and thousands of secrets to discover.

1. Operation: Black Mesa

Operation: Black Mesa is a total Source remake of Half Life: Opposing Force. Using the Source engine, the developers plan to recreate the Black Mesa research Facility as it was seen by Corporal Adrian Shephard of the H.E.C.U. Half-life: Opposing Force is still an amazing game, although it's not nearly as amazing as it was when it was released.

I'm not getting the difference between Black Mesa and Operation:Black Mesa aren't they exactly the same porting the original Half Life to the source engine?

No, Operation: Black Mesa is a remake of the Half-Life: Opposing Force game where you play as Cpl. Shephard.

So one remakes the original game in source and the other makes the expansion pack but it's by a completely different team?

Also what's with the down votes for a simple question?

I pay attention to ModDB, and I track all of these mods except Nº3, and I still knew about its existence.

There is a difference between a mod having thousands of trackers and viewers and only a few of them voting, perhaps a mod that has few trackers has more loyal fans that remembered to vote for him when the vote started.

It's a common mistake to believe that the ranking has _anything_ to do with the actual votes being given. A mod can be rank 1 for weeks and not get a single vote - theoretically.

then that's either bad advertising by ModDb if so many watch or rate these mods all yer yet don't vote for them now. OR this was rigged.

Oh just shut up you sore loser. SureAI are veterans who have made three highly praised total conversions going back to Morrowind, winning MOTY Editor's Choice and placing high in Player's Choice with Nehrim. I normally don't trash talk other devs but frankly you are just being a ****. If your watchers and viewers didn't vote for you, you clearly didn't impress or promote enough. You might have made top 10 though, but unfortunately they onlyshow top 5. However, if you make it a habbit of accusing fellow devs of cheating, it's no wonder you don't get the votes to win.

I wish the voting would be for mods that actually have released something this year, rather then not even being finished. They are not really a mod of the year since they didn't release something this year. SoTP deserves its place if not being higher up though, you guys released an amazing alpha!

Excuse me, the award is called "Best upcoming mod" for a reason. As a developer of an upcoming mod, I find this award extremely helpful towards morale. Knowing that someone out there appreciates the work that you are doing, and anticipates the content that you are about to release is such a heartwarming thing.

"I wish the voting would be for mods that actually have released something this year, rather then not even being finished. They are not really a mod of the year since they didn't release something this year" I wish you would have taken a look at what you wrote before posting, it's things like this that make people stop making mods halfway through.

But the problem is that 3 of these mods have less than a hundred thousand views, with only a few hundred watchers. i'm sorry man, but there are dozens of mods with way more views and watchers than a few of these mods, and they arent even very active. STALKER and SotP get 100k views every 2-3 weeks easily, as they average 3-4 thousand views a day for the past month.

Best upcoming should not be paid the most money to be advertised.

Look at the NFL right now. I love the Redskins, but if they were all of a sudden allowed in the play offs and got into the division game, wouldn't you be ******? There are a lot of mods that should have been in place of several of these "top 5" mods

But no one goes to moddb for Skyrim mods. They use the Bethforum or Nexus and only goes for voting to moddb.

As someone who is helping lead the team that is in the process of producing one of the larger Skyrim mods in active development (as is Kevinsaer), I disagree. Our ModDB page is our home base, and is by far the best way to get your content out there to a large audience. The NexusMods and Bethesda forums result in threads getting quickly buried, whereas the articles that get pushed to the front page of ModDB drive a lot of traffic to our project.

While Skyrim Nexus is certainly a great place for released mods, I personally believe that ModDB is the best way to promote a work in progress Skyrim mod, and I would bet that the guys and gals over at SureAI would probably agree.

I think the problem is that many people who just pass by this site vote for the mods that are showcased on the homepage and newspage. I mean, many of these winners have been on the homepage the last weeks, so when a bypasser clicks on the news and see that "Click here for MOTY..." button, they think, why not? So maybe you get a vote there by somebody who knows nothing about the history of the mod. I don't know, just trying to understand...

Reply Good karma Bad karma+3 votes
ElijahHouck
ElijahHouck

Sure, but everybody has just as much ability to get their news story on the front page, right? So at that point, as long as everybody that is interested in participating in the competition posts articles, everybody has an equal chance of getting spotted by the person you're describing. After that, it all comes down to who has the most impressive mod.

Have you ever thought that their home isn't their moddb page? The mod of the year awards have nothing to do with how much standing a mod has within moddb itself.

Also, this is 'best' upcoming mod which is voted in by the people, Jaykin Bacon didnt pay a dime for any kind of advertising and their main homebase is the Facepunch forums, did you ever stop to think that maybe people just like the look of their mod better or were more willing to vote for it than others?

Yes, I'm losing faith in Moddb as of late. There are many mods that get randomly 20,000 to 30,000 visitors in a day that have no news posts or anything really, and are taking the #1 spot, but no one knows where it came from, only for the mod to all of a sudden lose it's ranks and viewers and such...

Sorry to break it to you but, not every mod focuses on ModDB for their community efforts (see MTA:SA for an example)

Also, HL2 is no longer the modding haven it once was; all the major Total Conversion mods are either out (and dead) or were dead long ago.

We'll be seeing more small scale fun mods like Jaykin' Bacon (it looks great), and mods for more popular titles like Skyrim (If you haven't heard of the SureAI team you're living under a rock)
