The aim of the Bridgegate Mysteries project is to create an online multiplayer boardgame inspired by the stories of HP Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos.
This project is about producing a basic demo to test this idea and measure it's worth in the community.
Currently there is a single player experience with a limited amount of content that is just waiting for some artwork of a better quality than I can produce, before it is presentable enough for release. After that it will be over to you to offer feedback, then we can see how to take it on to the next level.
So why am I doing this?
After so many years spent on The Intern's Story I thought it was a time for a change of direction. Not hard to Port but at least a couple of degrees S.S. West. So I dug into the archives and brushed off the dusty old idea of a board-game.
I was a huge fan of the original Chaosium, Arkham Horror board-game. It felt like I knew the inhabitants and locations. I was at home there, even if it was filled with globular tentacled horrors and portals leading to strange places.
The game itself was nice and easy to set-up and play with friends who probably wished I had another game in my collection. So when Fantasy Flight Games released the remake I was on the case and naturally blown away by the quality of the artwork. Sadly though, we found the game itself a trial to set-up and play. This led to the mind wandering and me to ask myself the question “What would I do if I wanted to make a game like this that I would enjoy playing?” The seed was planted back in 1990 and has after many ages finally matured.
So what has emerged from the fundent imagination of an HP Lovecraft and board-game fan.
Well naturally I shouldn't even attempt another version of the tried and tested formula that FFG have so beautifully crafted and I can say that I have gone on to enjoy the later versions of their games. So to make this clear; this is not a FFG bashing exercise as they have inspired me as much as the original.
What I wanted was:
So this is what I have tried to create.
Now to discover if I have succeeded.
