Orx is an open source, portable, lightweight, plugin-based, data-driven and extremely easy to use 2D-oriented game engine. It has been created to allow fast creation of games and prototypes. All objects and cameras are created in a 3D space, but only a 2D rendering plugin is currently available (however hooks are provided for those who need to roll out their own 3D rendering).

Final version Orx 1.8 is out. Features include a revamped Data Driven Animation System, arm64-v8a support and support for Visual Studio 2015. Download links and walkthrough tutorial available.

Orx 1.8 is released.

Notable features include:

  • A new animation declaration system has been added, both simpler and more powerful. The older system is retained but is deprecated. Visit the walkthrough guide to see how the new system works.
  • Support for Visual Studio 2015 has been added. Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 have been removed.
  • Added arm64-v8a support for Android
  • Box2D plugin has been replaced with LiquidFun
  • Compile-time warning when using mismatched headers/lib versions
