GameMaker: Studio caters to entry-level novices and seasoned game development professionals equally, allowing them to create cross-platform games in record time and at a fraction of the cost of conventional tools! In addition to making game development 80 percent faster than coding for native languages, developers can create fully functional prototypes in just a few hours, and a full game in just a matter of weeks.
Great to make both easy, simple games in minutes for beginners, and tons of options for those who are willing to go one step further. Game maker has been used to create commercial games, for iPods, iPhones, iPads and psp. The game maker community on Yoyogames is strong (well over 100 000 members) and very supportive. Posting your game on this community can result in it being published on an international scale, in addition to being featured and played by thousands of people.Yoyogames have also released a new version of game maker (8.1) which will soon allow users to submit their games to the company. If their game is good enough, it will soon be able to be placed on the app store, and the developer(s) may even be able to receive profit from their game. I highly recommend for you to try out this program, and I am sure that you will have great fun with it.
After having Game Maker and Game Maker Studio 2 since March 2017, I have had it almost 9 months now. I'm actually moving towards finishing my first game with it. Yeah, it was hard to get into for a zero programming guy like myself, but after 9 months, I'm finally catching how it works. It is really a blessing to have compared to how you really do game design... through code and scripts... mainly, just saying.
I have invested $900 into this system... $100 in Windows, $399 in the Android side, and another $399 into making Xbox One and Windows 10 apps/games. Still have not been able to use the UWP yet, but will review it shortly. With the money invested, I decided to make a simple game, called Sky Fall. About alien ships and space. The game is turning out great. Hardly any programming back side required. I have been using a lot of drag and drop from asset modules they have already coded for me.
Overall, I'm happy with the experience else I would never have bought into the Xbox side. If you want a good system that isn't too complex, go with Game Maker Studio 2. The windows add-in will do most people just fine. Great learning tool on how games are made and work.
Let me tell you my story about how GameMaker has turned me into indie game developer.
About 10 years ago I've began to play games.
Ever since, I've wanted to create my own games.
I've been painting game interfaces in MS paint for years, pretending to be game developer.
3 years ago, I've decided that it's time to stop pretending and create real game.
It was nightmare.
I've downloaded many large programs without any idea how to use them, how to create game with them.
It was just too hard to start with almost no knowledge.
I've learned programming basics from the Codeacademy.com and I was able to write very simple programs.
I had to learn programming myself, because in the school I didn't got any useful programming knowledge.
So, I tried to make game, downloaded many different compilers, they didn't work and I almost gave up.
But then I found GameMaker!
I've downloaded it, completed few simple tutorials and I was already able to make simple games!
Making games with GameMaker was so much fun, that I've almost stopped playing games.
My first RPG was garbage.
My second game, odd shoot-em-up with RPG elements was also pretty bad, but better. Much better.
My third game was massive RPG, which was bad only because it had awful graphics.
Well, okay, there were other awful things...
But when I finished making it, I realized that nothing can stop me, that I can create anything I want!
And now I'm making my fourth game. I'm working on it for year now and it's not even half done.
Since I realized I can make great game with GameMaker, I'm trying to do it and I'm feeling that I'm getting close.
This is my story so far and it's really not over!
I don't know what will happen in future, but I hope that one day, my games, made with GameMaker, will stand proudly next to other great games here in Steam!
It's amazing experience watching your skills grow, watching your games become better and better...
So, if you ever wanted to create your own game and didn't yet, grab GameMaker and do it!
PS.: Sorry for bad English.
PPS.: My fourth and best game: Store.steampowered.com
Simple Engine But It's So Epic For Beginners
One of the Greatest 2D Game Engines out there and I believe that this Engine is the Real King...
Some people down this way to make games until the learn that it can do everything and more if you put time into it!
the program is nice is your a beginer and want to create a game.I just need practice to atleast use it a bit more :3
Having started out with python and pygame I found I couldn't achieve what I wanted. I moved to another very popular engine and have slowly learnt quite a bit of c#. I still found everything a bit counter intuitive to what I had previously learnt.
Having spent a month playing with gamemaker, I'm blown away. While I'm learning and using a language only for this I don't care it just makes sense. Calling gamepad for example is so easy and obvious.
The ability to quickly draw some sprites and have something running all in the engine too is great.
Moving forward my next project at the very least will be made in gamemaker.
A bargin at the price.
Only small gripe the add ons seem expensive compared to the base engine, having said that it's still cheap compared to alternatives.
One of the best game engines especially for indie studios.
I love this game engine.
