The head ghost seems too small. Is there any solution to fix it?

Hi, that is unusual. By 'small' do you mean the sprite is too small? I haven't run into that before but I can try and recreate it.

Thanks, I really appreciate your work. I mean on the first meeting head ghost in the register room, she appears but the sprite looks too small. I tried at different window sizes but the result is the same.

I have the same issue. Must be the upscaling when using a large resolution like 1920 x 1080. I guess it makes the sprites small on some ghosts.

Unfortunately I can confirm it seems to happen at all resolutions. It also seems to happen only after you reload a save file. I'll be doing some more tests.

I've spoken with a Korean modder about this problem. It only occurs after you load a save file, and it seems that the only way to fix it is to reload the area (i.e. load into another area then back again)... Or start a new game.

It seems that this has always been an issue, but I didn't notice it before somehow.

I'll keep an eye on it. I may install an unmodified copy of the game on a Korean Windows 2000 or something just to make sure it's always been there.

Is there any way to run this in windowed mode? I'm trying the dxwnd launcher from the wdlaunch but when the window opens my cursor disappears

Hey there, try going into settings and switching your device to something else, like so:
1. I.imgur.com
2. I.imgur.com

Then try watching the cutscene again to see if it crashes.

If that doesn't work, try just skipping the cutscene right from the start. It's not ideal but may work. The 'Esc' key skips cutscenes.

As a last resort I can provide save files which put you immediately after the opening cutscene. Let me know if you need them.

Hello,
I'm not OP but I have a similar issue and switching the device makes the game not run.
Pressing ESC during the cutscene also makes the game crash so I'm interested in a save file.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, absolutely. Here are the saves (one for each difficulty setting): Mega.nz

To use them you just put them in the saves folder and rename them to "wsavX.sav" where 'X' is equal to the save slot - 1.

e.g. "wsav0.sav" is save slot 1. "wsav1.sav" is save slot 2, etc.

To get to the saves folder there's a "\saves" button in the launcher, which I've outlined here: I.imgur.com

Let me know if you have any other issues.

Thank you for the help! I was able to boot in the game. I also have the HUD.

However, it seems that I have one more issue, when the first choice appeared in the game (this one (I can't link links as a guest so I'm just putting the end of the youtube link, you can add that after the com of the youtube website to see the video): /watch?v=BFB8GqrA_nA&t=38s), the first option is the only one that appears and clicking on it makes the option diseappear and then nothing happens.

Thanks in advance for the help!

That's... interesting. I've never seen that before.

I checked over the save files and can confirm they're fine. The current patch 17.0_041 doesn't have any issues with that dialogue option either. The only thing I can think of is that there might be some inconsistency with your NOP files. (NOP files contain all the game's content, including text.)

Are you using any other mods or previously installed versions of White Day? I would check that the only NOP files in your main folder are as follows: I.imgur.com

Either way I recommend uninstalling the game completely and then doing a fresh install, and see if that fixes the problem. There's an uninstaller in the game's folder (uninstall.exe).

If that doesn't work let me know and I can see if there's anything else that can be done, but this is quite a strange problem, I'm not sure what could be causing it. Sorry about that.

I can always provide another save file but since there are dialogue options you'll have to let me know which options you wanted, and what difficulty setting you're playing on.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Thanks again for the help, I think I kinda messed with files since I had other issues before (I probably had nops from other versions of the game) and I tried to fix some of them so when I put back all of the nops from this version + TUFP into the game folder, I don't have the issue anymore and everything works great it seems!

Sorry about that and thanks again!

Hello,

I've played the game for a bit and I didn't encounter any game-breaking issues (except the fact that it crashes every 15-20 minutes but it's not that much of an issue so far as I save pretty often) except when I went from Main Building 2 to the New Building, the game crashes. I must have tried 10 times to enter in different ways but it always happens the same, when I click on the choice to go to the new building, the sound of the game cuts off and the game crashes. No loading screen or anything, it doesn't show anything past the choice screen. Do you know to fix this? I have the full install version without modifications except for the fact that I deleted ddraw.dll as it removed the only device option that worked for me, Direct3D HAL.

Hey, sorry to hear you're still having trouble. Sadly it's hard to know what specifically could be causing these issues.

You mentioned you're playing with TUFP, which may be a factor. In its current state, TUFP is known to make the game really unstable due to the additional content added to the game. If you have been playing with it, try playing without it and see if you get the same problems.
Be aware that unfortunately your current save files *may* be tied to TUFP, since they contain information about items that don't exist in the vanilla game.

In general I'm not sure how viable it is to play through the whole game with TUFP right now; it's very experimental.

The only other thing I wonder is if you're playing in console mode. Console mode is very buggy and will crash all the time, especially when trying to load into different areas.
To access console mode you press the 'C' button instead of 'Launch Game', like so: I.imgur.com
If you're clicking Launch Game then it won't be that.

Out of curiosity what are your system specs? e.g. CPU, graphics card and Windows version.
May be useful to know in case someone else comes along with the same issues and same specs.

Thank you for the response! I actually fully reinstalled white day 17.0_041 without the mods, just without the ddraw.dll file and I still had the issue.

I just tried to do the game from the beginning without TUFP with the save file you provided for the beginning of the game and I still have the issue (The game didn't crash in the 30-40 minutes playthough, I think I could go through the janitor before but now I can't, ghosts appeared in the dark and before they didn't and the janitor is now still there during the baby section so I guess it solves some other issues I had), the game sadly still crashes when I'm entering the new building (and as before, going from main building 1 to 2 still works).

I'm not using the console mode as I initially thought it was to close the window.

As for my specs, I have a Pentium Dual-core T4200 (and I guess an integrated graphics card) and 21H1(19043) as the Windows version.

You could try playing on console mode just specifically for the Main Building 2 → New Building load. If successful you can press the '5' key to do a quick save (it overwrites save slot 1 / wsav0.sav, so be careful).

Also you could always just give me your save file and I'll load into the new building for you. Let me know if you want to try that.

There are a few other things you could randomly try and see if it does anything. Like setting the compatibility mode of whiteday.exe to Windows 2000 or XP - although be careful as this will move your saves folder to a different location due to admin rights (long story short White Day has a different save location depending on if it has admin rights or not - either "%localappdata%\VirtualStore\" or in the main White Day directory itself).

If you haven't tried already, you could try unticking D3D8 Wrapper in my launcher and ticking DxWnd instead. Then choosing a DX8 device in the official launcher.

Info about the D3D8 wrapper and DxWnd:
White Day is a Direct3D 7 & 8 game, and the D3D8 wrapper (made by crosire: Github.com ) essentially just diverts D3D8 calls to D3D9 instead. It's been included since Windows 8 dropped compatibility for D3D8, causing weird issues like the game running in 2x speed.
DxWnd is a piece of software which has a feature called timestretch which can make the game run slower to account for the speed issues, so it's a good alternative to using the D3D8 wrapper (although it can make the game drop frames sometimes). Timestretch is enabled by default when you enable DxWnd on my launcher.
ddraw.dll is supposed to help the game run on modern systems as well but for D3D7, although sounds like it's not been helpful in your case. (It's from the WineD3D project: Github.com )

Another thing you could try is using different WhiteDay_p4.dll + WhiteDay.dll files from older versions of the game...
- 1.16: Mega.nz
- Combo Package: Mega.nz
- Original 1.18: Mega.nz

Useful info about these DLLs, how they're used, etc.:
The 'Launch Game' and 'C' buttons simply swap between different DLLs when launching the game. e.g. 'Launch Game' always uses WhiteDay_p4.dll and 'C' always uses WhiteDay.dll.
Those buttons didn't originally say Launch Game and C though. They were actually 'Yes' and 'No' to the question of whether your CPU supported SSE2, which virtually all modern CPUs do nowadays.
For White Day Repackaged I used 1.18 files, replaced WhiteDay.dll with the console mode DLL, and left the SSE2 enabled DLL (WhiteDay_p4.dll) as it is. I hacked the menu to say 'Launch Game' and 'C' to signify the change.

So yeah maybe if you tried using a non SSE2 DLL from 1.18, or tried an older DLL from 1.16 or the combo package, that could make a difference.

Another thing is you could try disabling 'Detailed Shadows' when you go to launch the game. One time I saw someone on a Korean forum mention that option gave them issues. Worth a try.

The last thing that comes to mind is just trying a different version of Windows, or a whole different computer, if you have one spare.

That's all I got for now, fingers crossed one of these work.

I tried in compatibility mode with 98/ME and the launcher didn't launch, same for dxwnd, with XP whiteday.exe didn't launch, with detailled shadows off and all versions/options of the older versions of the game, it had no differences it seems.

I tried to find the command on google but all of the commands I saw on the white day wiki was how to hack items or use no clip. I can give you my save file to load me into the building (mega.nz/file/AlknhSoR#jtLkjcIysHtfah5UPF8YT9sfAskuiSXe_IvYD8GVpFw) but only if that doesn't bother you as you already helped me quite a lot.

Dude, how you can access inventory, the door is opened and restrooms are enlightened. My game nonetheless works, just walk get coin, get ghost note, teacher note and I can't read, I can't even click to light on switches. Thanks. Excuse me, what's you version, please?

Mr_Haase That usually happens when the game isn't running with a Korean locale. My version of the game uses Locale Emulator to run the game with a Korean locale so that the code can run correctly. I saw in another comment that you mentioned that you were running the game on Linux with Wine, so perhaps Locale Emulator isn't working properly under Wine.

My suggestion is try to find a way to run "whiteday.exe" in the game folder with a Korean locale, and maybe the game will run without those issues.

Just reporting a few issues:
- In the first scene with the 2 girls, one says "You're are".
- The door that leads to that scene is initially closed and says "It's locked" when examined. It automatically opens up after you visit the restroom, but the game still says it's locked.
- I think the "Class Materials (1)" note should say "their meaning".
- I seem to recall that one message contained a "the the" mistake.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I'll get the typos fixed for the next update.

Weirdly the door saying it's locked at the start was present in the original version as well. I'll look into it eventually.

I suppose you could change it to the "Won't move" message, or if possible, disable the message entirely once the door is open.

Another thing I forgot to mention... In the new building, there's this door at the end of a hallway that requires a yellow keycard, and when you open it, you see a scene with a key stuck in the ceiling. That scene spawns the janitor. I ran to another floor, and was surprised to see all the items I had picked up reappear, such as the map. I left the building and came back, and they all disappeared (saving and reloading probably works, too). Likely present in the original, but worth investigating anyway.

By the way, is the "Diary" menu really called like this in the original? I found that name a bit weird given that it's just a collection of documents found throughout the game.

Edit: I remember being confused when one of the notes referred to "L-Rods". Apparently, you renamed the item in a recent update, but the file still uses the old term. That reminds me, I once ran to 3F in that building and the janitor spawned on the roof and opened the door, allowing me to enter without the key. Could allow for some interesting sequence breaking.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
emuyia Author
emuyia - - 78 comments

I've never seen that happen in the New Building, that's interesting to know.

I'll double check the Diary translation. Admittedly that's not one I re-did when I re-translated the game for this version.
(EDIT: Turns out the reason it's "Diary" is because in the Korean version it says "Diary" too, so there wasn't anything to translate. It is a little weird though I agree).

Nice find regarding the sequence break. In fact, if I'm understanding you correctly, speedrunners use that to pass the New Building more quickly :)

I'm gearing up for another update soon so you should see some of these changes.

Hey, yes the console mode is very buggy. It can crash at random sometimes.

If it's not letting you into Main Building 2 I recommend pressing the '5' key outside the loading zone for Main Building 2; this will make a quick save. Then, load the game up in normal mode, load the area, and run to the nearest notepad to save the game. Finally, relaunch the game in console mode again, and there you go.

It's tedious but it works.

There shouldn't be a glowstick in the game unless you're using the "ultimate fan patch" mod, or installed White Day from another source first then patched it.

Also, console mode is only possible because of a custom version of the WhiteDay.dll file that has a debug mode in it, for some reason.

To give some context, there's two main DLL files, WhiteDay.dll and WhiteDay_p4.dll. Originally this was because a new instruction set called SSE2 was introduced in Pentium 4 processors, and a separate DLL was included to take advantage of the performance enhancements that came with it. Nowadays almost all CPUs support SSE2 so WhiteDay.dll is not necessary.

There used to be a menu in the official launcher which asked about SSE2, and depending on whether you answered Yes or No it would launch WhiteDay.dll or WhiteDay_p4.dll. But because I replaced WhiteDay.dll with the console mode DLL, I changed the menu to two buttons: Launch Game and 'C' for console mode.

The included WhiteDay_p4.dll is sourced from 1.18, but I don't know where the custom console mode DLL originally came from. I found it on Korean sites with little information.

Another important thing: I think the only thing that was updated from 1.16 to 1.18 was WhiteDay.dll and WhiteDay_p4.dll. Since there is only one console mode DLL, I don't think using 1.16 or 1.18 will make a difference, unfortunately.

Hi emuiya, what's the difference between white day 1.18 romance and 1.16
And do you have beta versions of white day

Reply Good karma Bad karma0 votes

emuyia - - 78 comments

I believe the only thing updated between 1.16 and 1.18 was WhiteDay.dll and WhiteDay_p4.dll, but I'm only basing that on what I remember from the old Sonnori website, as well as circumstantial evidence.

For one, I believe there was a ZIP file on the website for 1.18 which just included those DLL files.

For two, I've never seen an official NOP file past whiteday115.nop, and the Jewel version of White Day (which is 1.16) includes everything up to whiteday115.nop.

As for what the difference is between the 1.18 and 1.16 DLLs, I'm not sure. If I remember correctly I think 1.16 had a game breaking bug where the spider ghost tosses you out of the map, but it's been a long time since I tested the DLL files so I can't remember. There's probably other differences too. Sorry.

I don't have the beta versions of White Day sadly. There's only footage from official trailers. I do have the 2000 ECTS demo version though, which offers a peek into an early build of White Day. You can probably find it by Googling White Day 2000 ECTS demo.

Unfortunately not. I've been looking for it for a while.

It was only released on Korean feature phones of the time, and it isn't possible to download it anymore. The only way to get it now would be to find someone who has a Korean feature phone that has it installed.

I scoured through uploaded archives of Korean phone games of the time but didn't find anything.

In my research I found out there are ways to hack some feature phone models, which may make it possible to dump the game onto a computer and preserve it. But even then it would need to be emulated afterwards to be of any use.

White Day 2009 was developed using 'WIPI'. Sadly, I couldn't find an emulator for the version of WIPI that White Day would've used. I also searched for the WIPI SDKs for each of the main cell phone networks of the time (SKT, KTF, LGT), and they're either unavailable or restricted to developers.

There is a YouTube account that posted rather comprehensive footage of the game. I asked them if they'd be willing to try and dump the game but they didn't seem willing to take the risk (understandably). For now I think that footage is the best look into White Day 2009 we have.

Hello, leave the wrapper setting on, and please try putting this in your folder (replace the file): Github.com

The next update will include this wrapper as an optional alternative to the current one.

Let me know if it works.

If not I'd also try switching to a DX7 device in White Day's settings to see if that helps.

As a last resort, try the previous update: Mega.nz
Although the next update should fix the problems some people are having with 0.44 as well.
