it's saying i'm missing a file called smackw32.DLL I reinstalled like it said but that didn't help what do I do?
Do you have the latest version of the game? I'm pretty sure you need Battle Tactic and the Core Contigency.

I tried to start TA with this mod. I set up a skirmish, and when it gets over 3/4 of loading the units, this is what comes up

Ok. Im install " Total Annihilation v3.9.02 Beta Patch (October 2, 2013)" and problem gone .
Remove cavedog_units.ufo (or similar name) from your Total Mayhem folder. It shouldn't be there.
