WARNING!
If game won't start, giving you directx ot ddraw warnings, try to delete 'ddraw.dll' from mod folder. If meta-menu is laggy, try to change vsync settings in 'ddraw_settings.ini' (can be 1 or 0) or in-game (hit '~' to bring up the menu). When they are synched, all should be ok.

Download 2 music expansion packs or you will hear no music in lots of areas!
Note: this build differs from those before. You'll have to unzip the contents to your TH folder and handle the diabdat.mpq business manually if needed. If the latter happens to confuse you, address ReadMe inside the game folder, it ought to clarify things.
Attention! If it doesn't start under Windows 10, try this:
set TH.exe compatibility to WinXP SP2

Game is working but it's still showing "v1.206" in lower left corner of splash screen. Tried reinstalling (vanilia and Hellfire) and still same result.
Should I not worry about it? Not other issues experienced...

Hi guys. I just downloaded The Hell, v1.211 unpacked it, copied DIABDAT.MPQ to the main folder. I trie to run it and it says Thehell.exe stopped working bla bla bla... I have win7. Please delete my previous message as guest, thanks.

Yesterday I downloaded the newer version 1.216? I seen that its justa Rar file of the pre-installed version. Do you not have self-installers anymore? (my last version was 1.76)

If you delete ddraw it won't work either. It can't find ui art if you do start with ddraw, and it will just straight up fail if you delete ddraw

Thank you for this mod!
I could install it in my Wine on Linux, and all is starting fine (except a well known menu bug on Wine), but I can't access the menu with the '~' key. I guess it's because of my keyboard layout which is non US.
Is there something to do with some configuration files of the mod to fix this?

Even in game the key don't work. I tried to change my keyboard layout, but it don't work.
Knowing I'm not running the game on a native Windows system, I'm not surprised.
I was asking if a configuration file for The Hell could handle keyboard shortcuts to avoid me spend hours to look for a solution. (I'm a bit lazy, and if a simple solution exists, apply it before searching something else :))

mod wasn't tested on linux, so I have nothing to say on the matter
but I'll try to figure out something in future regarding a simple configuration tool.
if you can't bring up menu in the game by pressing tild key, try doing the setup in ddraw settings.ini file

Works great (even LAN) except for one small thing. I can't get the Jog feature to persist. Music, Sound and Gamma work but the Walk always resets to the left (even in town). Is this a bug or am I missing something? Being able to sprint around town in hell fire was great feature.
Just double checked and jogging works in single player but not multiplayer. I'm guessing that's on purpose.

I saw jogging in MP as something.. wrong. And something that takes away from the penalty of dying.

i cant download this for some reason, windows is stopping me from extracting. even after i turn off firewall. it recognizes it as a virus
The Hell's executable "TH1.exe" will register as a virus or trojan with some anti-virus software. Registering the file as safe is the only solution I know. For example, my OS is Windows 10 and Windows Defender always says TH1.exe is a trojan and automatically quarantines it whenever I download the mod. What I do is remove it from quarantine and under "Virus & threat protection settings" I add an exclusion for The Hell's folder, so Windows won't scan that folder when it does virus scans.
Most anti-virus software has some feature where you can exclude specific files or folders from being scanned. You may have to look up how to do that with your anti-virus solution, but that may be the only way to play the mod with some anti-virus programs installed.
thehell's executable is th.exe.
Unless it's always been different for me for some reason, to play The Hell mod with all the features you have to use "TH1.exe". Using "TH.exe" seems to just play regular Diablo. Or at least you don't have all the features that The Hell brings...for example, when using "TH.exe", Gillian doesn't have the stash feature.
My computer can't extract rar files. Any chance TheHell will be formatted to a downloadable zip file?

Is this the best Diablo 1 mod? I have another one that i downloaded recently that also changed lots of stuff. It was on a different site.
I guess there is no chance for 1.231 and 1.232 HD? Really liked that HD project. Would play again just for ring mail DEX req removed.

I encountered a bug. I can't right click the Spectral Elixir from the Black Mushroom sub-quest.
I placed the Spectral Elixir in Gillian stash, and it's no longer consumable or unusable after getting it from stash.
I managed to consume the bugged Spectral Elixir, after finishing the entire Horror difficulty. Then start a new game in Purgatory difficulty, then encountered again the Black Mushroom sub-quest. Then placed again the bugged Spectral Elixir in my inventory. Accomplished the Black Mushroom sub-quest, then obtained another Spectral Elixir. So I then had 2 Spectral Elixir, drunk them both. Problem solved!
Is it ok to put both TH1 & TH2 in the same folder? To save disk space, they have different main file names anyway. The only files they both uses are the Diadat.mpq, SmackW32.dll, THMusic.mor, and THMusic2.mor

Hi, ist there some kind of "Auto-Attack" Feature planned?
Its kinda annoying to click all the time in Battle instead of just holding the Mousekey (like in all modern Action RPGs AFTER Diablo 1).
In original D1 i used a small Tool named "Diablo-Clicker" to enable this. But it wont work with this Mod, i already tried it.
play TH2. it has all these quality features.
and if you wanna stick to TH1, hust keep mous button pressed while you hold SHIFT, that will solve your problem
