Every time we update the launcher we have to re-submit it the various anti-virus companies for proper identification - but it takes some time to go thru.

other than that its magnificent and we love you! :)

Any chance you can do an version that does not need to go online to do shizzle? Are you on github?

In this case it's the launcher itself that's being updated - not the package itself. All we can do is wait for the folks at Microsoft to update their side.

Attempting to run the latest updater/ launcher as administrator, and it just keeps repeating it must be in the root folder. Here is where I have it currently sitting though I tried to run it as well in sub folders just to see. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance Im not sure what im missing, Thanks

This may very well be the updater trying to update itself - and your anti-virus removing the updater. You appear to have the correct folder although sometimes the Program Files(x86) folder will give this odd behavior.

What is the URL/Domain address one should add to Bitdefender
and the like in order to avoid updating issues?

Thanks.

You would have to add an exception for the filename of the launcher itself, but the directory it sits in.

In the case of Bitdefender, one must add the directory to both Online Threat Prevention and Firewall modules.

By the by, I hope you add BrewLAN v0.8.9 to the LOUD project (FTP server) soon.

Regards, Destromath.

We suggest you make a new profile at the Main Menu - your original FA profile is likely pointing to the maps of the original game, which LOUD cannot see by default.

bonjour,

Orbital Wars a quelques incompatibilités avec The LOUD Project.

Greetings Sprouto,

first of all, I admire your many years work. I investigated your project few years ago, I modding SupCom AI and mechanisms too.
But now, please. I there any complete changelog? Is there any changes which affect vanilla game itself? For example, I have feeling about some buildrate or times changes, extractor consumption, shield energy consumption, T3 static arties RoF and so.

I notied LOUD AI is very human-like. I have battles, where 40mins withnout any bigger attack and then, 2x30 t3 strat bombers whipe resource points and loaded transports do the rest. Surrounding guerrila-like hits are also very nice... But, there is only one thing I missed from Sorian and added AIs... that continuous attacks all around the map.
Is there any way, how to make AI little ... blinder? More animal like raging, any mod, little fix or cheating options?

Thank for answers and keep your magnificent ideas.

Welcome back Tichondrius and thanks for your comments.

This might not be the right place for this kind of discussion, but it's one I'm certainly happy to have - if you're interested in a more long-winded talk about it, please join me on our Discord server. There I can give you the background for some of those decisions.

As for a change log - the best I can offer you is the one automatically created by our GitHub - a link I can happily offer you on our Discord. There you can see all the fine details of any work that I do, AI or unit based. Of course, the project goes back well before we made it onto there, so a lot of the fundamental unit changes are not to be found on it.

Obviously, one of the main things we wanted to address with LOUD was the mindless suicidal attacks that Sorian often made. To that end, we've been very successful, as he now uses his intelligence gathering to evaluate potential attacks - opting to go elsewhere, or wait, until he has the potential for success.

Certainly, this can frustrate a lot of players - but for the AI, it's a dual edged sword - making him smart like this allows us to dramatically reduce the cheat levels required to get a competitive game - in turn, this greatly reduces overall unit cap and keeps performance up. However, it makes his logistics much tighter - and he cannot easily replace his losses, so making him more reckless would just put him 'on hold' for a longer period and make him a weaker player.

Anyhow - it's a fascinating discussion - come join us on the Discord if you'd like to explore it more - we love hearing from our users, in particular when they want to discuss some of the finer points of his behavior.

Does the AI can use the aircraft carrier to product aircraft and carry airplanes to a location and release them? I want to play a great sea battle with AI^^

We did, at one point, have the carriers acting in that role, but various engine issues made us shelve the idea (carriers have problems producing aircraft while on the move, and servicing aircraft while firing or moving) - so - we opted to withdraw them for the time being.

However, LOUD's naval AI still features air support, and is dramatically more advanced than previous AI in this area.

Hey there guys,

Absolutely love the revamp of the game, Well done!

I however have a slight problem. My sound seems to cut out partway through the game and that's a huge part of playing for me... I've tried various things like changing the game sound settings, changing what output my sound is coming from, turning on or off "Windows Sonic for headphones" (Windows 10) with no luck.

Any ideas?

Other than that i can for sure say that this project has given me a whole new experience with Supreme Commander and Love it!

Thank You

There are a number of hardware related issues surrounding sound and FA.

Being as old as it is, FA comes from a day and age where having one sound card was normal, but today, machines often have two or more - many coming from sound capable monitors and HDMI connections on video cards.

This can confuse FA, and it loses track of what it's supposed to be talking to. Solution - using the hardware manager, DISABLE any sound hardware that you are not using. Insure that the one you are using is set to Stereo - not surround - and - most importantly, it's truly best if you reboot your machine prior to playing. This insures that you've got a clean slate. A lot of folks can, and will, leave their machine on for days on end, letting sleep mode handle power consumption issues. However, this can often leave hardware in an unknown state, in particular sound hardware, and a full reboot will clear that up.

Thank you very much!

The sound does not cut out at all now and I can play the game as it was supposed to be played.

Just as a question: does LOUD have problems with Forged Alliance Forever?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

They are two completely different environments - not compatible with each other. You can, however, install and use both of them without one affecting the other. The focus of LOUD is larger, longer, games while FAF is focused primarily upon PvP, competitive play in a shorter, smaller format.

Thanks so much for this version gang, it is fantastic.

Only issue I am noticing that some of the maps are causing significant lag, almost like it is struggling to load assets whilst I am playing.

I have the game on an SSD and run a Ryzen 3700x 8 core CPU with a GTX 2060. This appears to have nothing to do with unit count and I have tested with many NPCs etc, the only consistent issue seems to be certain maps (size irrelevant).

The only thing I can suggest is that the maps which have been made by the community might be to blame? I did read one thing online suggestion the sound files might have something to do with it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

At present - the biggest and most dominant 'lag' issues are centred around NVidia graphics cards. A recent driver update - from December, has essentially sabotaged the game, resulting in massive lag and slowdown after a few minutes, whenever the mouse is moved. Believe me when I tell you, the maps are NOT responsible for this, nor is the number of units.

There are two solutions - one we have built inline in LOUD - but it requires that you start the game with the User Cheats turned on. You'll find this option in the Options panel when you're configuring a game. Turning this on allows the code to not only run a command that cures this problem for many - but optimizes a number of pathfinding options that will improve the long term performance of the game.

The second, and more technical solution, involves shutting off the NVidia service which supports the NVidia overlay. The details of that you'll have to locate elsewhere.

We're hoping that NVidia will address this issue soon, as it has impacted more than just this one game - but many others.

UPDATE: As of June 2021 - NVidia has released a new video driver that addresses this issue.

Thank you for such a detailed reply. The game is fantastic, so thank you for all your hard work. Let's hope Nvidia sort their drivers out. In the meantime I shall try the work arounds that you have suggested.

will you continue to add more things to the game? For example new units or structures.
You deserve an oscar my friend, the company could call you to make SUPREME COMMANDER 3, this is just a dream of mine.

We've examined Orbital Wars a number of times, and unfortunately, the orbital layer is just something we cannot fix - so adding any kind of weapon system up there just unbalances the rest of the game.

With the number of mods we've already included as part of the package, there's not a whole lot of opportunity left for additional units - as we take special care to not duplicate functionality where we can avoid it.

If you have any specific ideas for us, please, join us on our Discord server and provide us some links to those resources so we can review them.

Hello everyone! I'm looking for better AI for FA and people recommended me your LOUD PROJECT. If I want smarter AI I need install special submods from the list of mods (can your recommend them) or I should just select full install? Sorry if my question strange. I haven't used your Updater/Launcher before.

Installing LOUD will put absolutely everything you need at your fingertips - you just need to decide what parts of it you will turn on or off. We include a great many mods as part of the package - but to make it really easy - there is a button, in the Mod Manager, that will configure the mods to the 'LOUD' standard that we generally use.

This can happen with the large files in areas that are really distant from our FTP service.

There is another way to reach the files - in the HELP section - we have a OneDrive link - all of the files that go into the LOUD folder are there. Try grabbing the 5 or 6 biggest - and then let the launcher update again.

I believe we were able to solve this issue thru our Discord server. The user has the GOG version of the game, and it installs both Supreme Commander AND Forged Alliance. However, the Forged Alliance folder is stored inside the Supreme Commander folder, and the user had installed the LOUD launcher into the Supreme Commander folder.

Once we detected that, we simply moved the LOUD folder into the Forged Alliance directory and all was well.

i Have almost no sound in the game, only sounds from shots fired and music. What could this be?

Reply Good karma Bad karma0 votes

This can be caused by a number of things - most usually you have your audio hardware set to surround sound. I would suggest that you entirely reboot your machine - and test your sound in the original Forged Alliance game. LOUD utilizes your original installation of the game, so whatever problem you may have should exist there as well.

FA is not very happy with modern surround sound setups and really needs your audio hardware to be set to stereo.

Love the mod, I'm fairly new to playing on PC but I'm having a great time. I have one question though, when I downloaded on my old computer (rip) it worked fine, but when I installed on my new computer the research campus was gone. Is there any fix for this? Or did I install the mod wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Great work on the mod again.

What units does only LOUD have? And would you let people play who would like the units, but want Forged Aliance without LOUD?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

LOUD doesn't change your original installation of Forged Alliance - you can still play that any time you'd like. It stands alone.

LOUD is not a unit mod. We have only a very small number of units that are unique to LOUD, and for the most part, they are extensions of existing units. There's no file that would give you those units for use with the vanilla game.

LOUD includes many adapted mods (many that have units) packaged with it - you don't have to use them, but they are included with it and can be turned off, and on, within LOUD, as you like. Several of them add many units, and others are either gameplay or visual mods. You'll find them in the EXTRAS section of the MAIN MENU - in the MOD MANAGER.

We get asked this one a fair bit - Orbital Wars.

We've reviewed this several times over the years and the reason we don't make this LOUD compatible is pretty simple. The ORBITAL layer is incomplete - and there is no control over the layer interactions - so the orbital units are always pretty much entirely overpowered, and thus, not really suitable for use with LOUD.
