A narrative driven exploration game set in surreal colonial India.

From the journal of Major Subedar Charls Connington.
BhulaDesh 1862.
People of Kayamgadh do not speak.
They are afraid that their words might penetrate the layers under which
their bodies are hidden. Afraid that some phrase or name might,
through woolen caps and cotton plugs and balled bits of torn rags,
enter their buried ears and insert itself into their thoughts, prompting
them to think of Kayamgadh not as they see it but as it is being
described to them by the person speaking these words.
It is a fear so deeply entrenched, that people now see the city with
unwilling eyes, shaded behind their hands, lest they be tempted into
a sudden burst of verbiage whilst looking upon the wonders of
Kayamgadh. a temptation that might resist the doctrine of their self
imposed silence.
For Kayamgadh is a wonderful city, where the craftsmen strive hard to
put into form all that they cannot give words to, and where the work
of the craftsman is left undisturbed, for it is only looked upon but
never described by the people, who never speak.

Rituals is an early alpha build for Somewhere.
It is a narrative driven, exploration game with elements of stealth,
and is played in the first person mode.
The game is set in an alternate Colonial India. And explores the strange consequences of the search for a mythical city called Kayamgadh.
You navigate through the stories about Kayamgadh by becoming other people. And as you shift identities, you realize that each person you become, is a figment of another character’s imagination and a part of yet another story.
Explore this convoluted construction, celebrate it’s absurdity and
piece together it’s strangely crafted stories.

Cool ;-) The image looks like some kind of alchemy to me.
I have no any sounds in game. Is this normal?
No ! The game certainly has sound.
When you start the game there is no sound till the end of the tutorial and then again only footstep sounds till you switch on a Radio. ( These might be hard to hear if the volume is turned down ).
To definitively check whether the sound is working or not - try switching on a radio and see if anything plays ?
If not, could you send me your specs I will look into it !
Hope that helps. Thanks.
I've used radio but nothing happens.
Peculiar ! We will look into what is causing it, and try and resolve the same. Could you send me your computer specifications, what Windows are you using ?
Thank you.
Sure. It's Windows XP 32bit, sound from Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro.
Also grammar mistake in story "So i joined the army". I mean "I".
Thank you for pointing out the grammatical error ! I expect there are a few in there, since we did not spend any time proof reading. Will certainly correct it over subsequent builds.
Meanwhile I haven't been able to replicate the sound error. It is possibly a compatibility issue, maybe compressing the sounds in a different format should solve it ? If we manage to fix it and test it out I will certainly send you an updated link.
Thank you for being so patient with all the rough edges of the build ! and I really appreciate your point out these bugs to us.
I am happy to help in detection of errors. Here You have my gameplay without sonuds :( : Youtube.com
Thank you that is indeed a comprehensive video !
In fact there are game play sounds in the video ? I can hear the footstep sounds and the rustling of the inventory when it is opened and closed, even the radio song at one point ( 4:23 ). The volume of the sounds is a little low, but they do seem to be working.
There is actually very little sound in the game world. Only the footsteps, the opening and closing of the inventory and finally the radio. And most of the sound and animations are placeholder. Aspects of the game we are not quiet good at yet !
LOL, you're right! There are some sounds. I was playing with speakers almost turned off. So sorry for false alarm :) First time I play game (and I am playing since 1986) I had situation like this :)
No Problem at all !
And I really do appreciate your creating a video for the game. Hope you enjoy our subsequent releases as well.
