The entire Ravenholm chapter from Half-Life 2, fully playable in Goldsrc as a Half-Life 1 mod.
Install instructions
To install, extract the .zip into your Half-Life directory. For steam this will look like "...\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\"
If you want to update an older version, do the same thing but choose to replace the old files when prompted.
After that, simply restart steam and the mod should show up.
Bugs, feedback, and more information
This mod has not been tested on anything other than the steam release of Half-Life on Windows. Linux and mac aren't supported yet, unfortunately.
Please give your feedback, this demo and the feedback we're given will likely indicate how the rest of the mod is.
If you experience any bugs or issues, let us know and we'll try to fix them asap.
Known Issues (and possible solutions):
- In d1_town_01, an audio bug can happen, caused by some interaction between dead zombies. If this happens, save and load.
- A common bug for goldsrc mods/games is the player not being able to look all the way around. If this happens, try turning mouse filtering on or off. One untested solution is copy/pasting all the .cfg files from your valve folder (common/Half-Life/valve/) into hl2 classic's directory.
- "could not load library..." This error may be caused by the code for the mod not being present. First, make sure you installed the mod correctly. Then check the folder "dlls" and "cl_dlls," you should find hl.dll in dlls and client.dll in cl_dlls if you don't, this is the cause of the error. Your antivirus software might have thought it was a virus. Re-download the mod to check if they download, if not disable your antivirus before downloading and make sure those files stay. As a last resort, you can copy the equivalent files from your valve folder, but this will get rid of all custom code for the mod, and it's uncertain as to if it will be playable or not.

Help, I followed the instructions but it did not show up
Check this tutorial and make sure it's installed right: Steamcommunity.com
Make sure it's on your C drive as well. Mods won't show up if installed on a different drive than Steam

i like it because it feels like HL2 in goldsrc, and not like just a bunch of models from HL2 ported into goldsrc. good job.
Cool, cant wait to play it
My thoughts: Physics are janky as heck especially when you bring in explosives like I carefully pick up a barrel and a explode, but other than this was great
P.S. dev test room is broken due to missing models and I tried the plasma rifle, genuinely my favorite weapon
Physics are janky because it's goldsource my dude
yeah. There arent physics models in goldsrc because the models are already low poly. Its probably the gravity gun that causes that since there isnt really a physics engine.
This was a very impressive demo in my eyes. Almost all of the scripted sequences were recreated in goldsrcs and its just super cool! I especially find the physics interesting, could use work though. And the only problem I found was when you get the shotgun from father gregori and you get down to the street level using that elevator. Sometimes it wouldn't load the next level so I was just stuck in that one map. Overall though nice job to everyone and I cant wait to see further updates.
I'm ready to turn this spooky 2004 nostalgia into spooky 1998 nostalgia!
Ok so:
I liked the goldsrc-style visuals A LOT here, but I feel like some of the weapon models could be lower quality to fit in more :p
Father Grigori wouldn't help me until the "hallowed ground" part, and fast zombies were far less intimidating than the hl2 ones, but I'm not sure if that one is a bad thing.
Also I sometimes got stuck on objects I picked up with the gravity gun, and I got object boosted once. And at one point I blew myself up trying to punt explosive barrel at an enemy.
Anyway, nice job!
Would we be able to add HL1 enemies through hammer?
Yep, all hl1 entities are still in the code.
Amazing!

The authors, why this game requires a connection to steam?
Im just have global problem i can't install it

What's your problem?
Very nice
Wow awesome work.
What version of Windows is required for the game to work?
Any version of Windows
Do you have half life 1 in STEAM?
It doesn't work for me. it says could not load library client.dll
Are you using the steam release of HL1?
You can either delete client.dll or replace it from /Half-Life/valve/cl_dlls/client.dll
Thank you for your hard work on this!
This was tremendous work, honestly quite stunning to see all the tricks you pulled out of such an aging engine!
My only complaint is the shotgun model, it's pretty crap compared to the other demake weapons which are of fantastic quality in comparison. It sounds good, though!
Needs work.
Is that gonna work with Xash? Just wanted to play it on my vita. I tried the first demo, but there were lots of errors, metrocops didn`t spawn and etc.
If you want to play it on vita you'd have to compile the mod's source code for it, which is not released yet.
Plz more updates i love mod its best mods halflife
My mouse wont turn all the way around, its so annoying
Try enabling raw mouse input in the mouse options.
hehe "Half-Life Classic seeks to recreate the feeling that Valve doesn't take like 10+ years to release a new game, and instead released Half-Life in the year 2000."
Overall I genuinely enjoyed it. However, there was one fatal flaw that threw my experience out the window. There is a bug that doesn't allow me to look around at a complete 360 degrees. I tried enabling/disabling mouse filter and raw input, but the bug persisted.
A strange high pitch audio bug happened the first time I entered the first zombie room. Didn't happen again when I played later.
Not being able to use E to pick up boxes feels wrong and the Gravity Gun should be mapped to G. Great work so far.
That audio bug is known but only happens occasionally. For now the best solution is to save and load, and that should get rid of it. As for picking things up with E, for now we're going to stick with hl1's pushable mechanics to make it feel more like that game, with the gravity gun reserved for picking things up. Pressing G for the gravity gun doesn't seem very hard to implement, and we'll consider adding it in the future.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the bug.
I noticed some bugs in non-steam Half-Life.
1. Quick save, quick load doesn't work.
2. Music doesn't work (you may consider using wav format for music)
3. When I press elevator button I get error SV_Start_sound volume =2550
4. Grass 2D sprite is blue.
Some advise:
You can use this music for background.
Royalty Free Music - Zombie Apocalypse - Scary Cinematic Industrial Action Background Music
Sinister Dark Ambient Music - Dark Road
Horror Music Royalty FREE
I would like to appeal to you for develop a mod that can be easily ported to Dreamast, PS2 and Xash3D. Or maybe someone else could fix this mod that will be compatible with non-steam version?
If you're not getting music then you must have installed it wrong... The 2d grass sprite error is caused by being in software mode, so that might be your problem. Try switching to openGL mode.
It looks like some non-steam Half-Life versions don't like mp3 files compressed with joint-stereo option. I recompress music with "lame -m s Half-Life09.wav Half-Life09.mp3" and music start to work.
I can't remember if I said this or not, but it'd be great if there were a Xash3D compatible version. No idea how you go about that, but still.
If I understood you right, it won't work with Xash, both on PC and mobile?
This is great!
Full gameplay this so good
i love this so much i can't wait for the full version
this great but there are a few small problems i will list off
there is a missing texture letting you see inside Father Grigori's neck.
the shotgun viewmodel is to low it dosnt line up with the crosshair
physics objects moves very slowly but this is probably do to engine limitations
Can confirm this fully works on Linux despite what is mentioned in the README.txt file. At least on my configuration that is, can't guarantee compatibility on other systems
I have no doubts that this would work on mac too.
On native version or with wine? The binaries were never compiled for linux to my knowledge so added features like the gravity gun won't work on native.
Native, Tested on other devices and it didn't work so as mentioned in my original comment it must be my particular install. GoldSrc on Linux is a bit random with compatibility sometimes from experience.
