This tool converts 3D-Models from the custom Aquanox format(.msb) to Wavefront .obj+.mtl
This is a script I wrote during the development of my Freelancer Mod because the converter from project aqua does not export U/V-Data or materials.
It is a commandline utility written in python that processes the input models and converts them to obj. Batch processing is also supported, just use wildcards. You will need a working Python 3 installation to use it. I only tested it on Linux, but it should also work on windows.
Do not forget to fetch the textures (from dat/pak/aquanox2/vfx/tex/*.dds) after converting your model, because the script does not get them for you.
This script could surely be improved in many ways, but it was my first python tool and worked well enough for me. Some parts of the .msb format are still a mystery for me, but the most important things are working.
Hello. Will this work on any other game that uses .msb file formats?
I tried using this but when I double click it, it just opens python and then closes. Please help.
I only tested it with 3D-Models from Aquanox and Aquanox:Revelation. But if the format is the same, then it 'should' work.
Look at the description above on how to use it.
how to activate script if when try to add addon to blender from user preferences - he gives error? (sorry for eng//rus)
blender ver - 2.79
Since I don't know how write blender plugins, sadly it is actually not a blender plugin, but a standalone python tool that is intended to be used with a command line.
It also doesn't need to be compiled. Run it from a linux shell like I advised in the description and you should get the converted wavefront files, which you can then import in blender.
(BTW: I developed on 3.5, which was recent at that time. Python 3.7 should be compatible though)
i found 2nd problem, script doesn't whant to compile by python 3.7, idk what to do next..., .msb files doesn't want to seee script in open mode too...
i really dont know how to use this programm, i dropped msb files to it, i tryed to add him addon in blender - no emotion, windows - wtf???
PSA: Since the Internet expected/wanted this to be a blender import plugin, I dediced to do it. While I was writing it, I also impoved the command line tool. So check out the the new MSB Tools mod.
where are the cnfig files are stored ? i mean how many weapons, torpedos can be installed to a ship? btw it is possible to add ships that enemy uses to buy? or great frigates ? :s
The configs are in the so called osd files, which need to be decoded before they can be edited as plain text.
Yes, it is possible, Einheit-101 knows how.
And again PSA:
