My take on making Max Payne 2 playthroughs challenging
with some original twists to the main gameplay.
How to Play:
-The Unofficial Weapon Patch for Max Payne 2
must have been installed (included in the package to
be sure)
-Insert the "Untamed.mp2m" mod file to your
Max Payne 2 directory, choose "Untamed" on the
"Choose customized game" dropbox in the game's launcher
and press "Play"
What is new:
The biggest game changer I came up with was simply
having almost every enemy charging at player (or
repositioning themselves) like they had read the
script for the game and decided to stop chatting
and cracking jokes :)
The second thing was experimenting with bullets
passing through people, the feature is simple and
works well enough. Most weapons don't pass the
bulletproof vests so the feature doesn't get
overused / abused, but it's definitely worth the
collateral headshots you occasionally get :P
I would like to see an optimized solution to fire
thru cardboard boxes and doors (may not be possible
without original map files) which enemies would be
aware of too, and some exit wound particles for
bullet wounds. New weapon sounds could have been
cool but I decided to focus on new mechanics.
Details:
-Enemies will expect or charge at you from early on
-Almost all enemies now wear bulletproof vests
-Single bullets cut thru flesh, higher calibers
pass even thru the vests
-Shotguns won't penetrate but can throw people off
-Less health and a limited ammo carrying capacity
-Modified BT and Shootdodge
-Better ragdolls*
-Difficulty based Level Selector + Correct weapons
when you jump to a chapter (when playing as
Mona in Part 2 and storming the Manor)
-SMGs and Shotguns now have their shared ammo
pools
-If you pick up an extra grenade it will get
loaded into a launcher, that you can aim down the
sights with for a "bulletcam"
-M4 now fires bursts of three bullets
-No more dual wielding for player
-No more shootdodging with Sniper Rifle or Dragunov
-Most weapons have modified fire rates, clip sizes,
accuracy, camera shakes, pickup texts and so on
Notes:
-Part 3 Chapter 1 to trigger the "where is he?
he isn't getting out" scene before the security
guard comes you need to stand still for up to
10 seconds (so they will lose track of you)
