Unzip contents of this archive into the baseq4 subfolder of your Quake 4 installation.
Make sure you're running Quake 4 version 1.1 (Beta or final) minimum, otherwise it won't show up in the menu.
There's a viewpoint.cfg in the pk4, if you exec it it'll bind your numpad (numbers, plus, minus, multiply) to third person view controls, num enter to net_allowcheats 1 (since third person isn't allowed usually) and num delete to reloadDecls (only important if you're modifying material files)
Hitomi comes from an "alternate dimension" (best way to describe it in few words) that appears to be Earth 200 years into the future. Where she comes from all humans are infused with nanobots to improve their physical strength, regeneration, etc. Over the generations the nanobots degraded and these days don't provide much of an improvement over normal humn characteristics. Due to media indoctrination she wants to become a magical girl, fight evil, yadda yadda. So she grabbed a plastic wand and a ridiculous outfit and sought for evil to fight. One day a voice inside her taught her how to turn that decorative wand into a real weapon (it can transform into an extending chain of blades that slices everything in its way to ribbons, used like a chainsaw) and how to use real magic. Turns out Hitomi is actually a goddess (though she isn't through ascension yet and can't use godly powers. That has to wait until she's 18). Maybe a nearly immortal being is a bit overkill for fighting evil but that never stopped Superman, either.
Hitomi comes in at 980 vertices and 1782 triangles. Not that much more than the stock Q4 playermodels.
Textures are 1x 16x16 (dummy for addnormals), 3x 256x128 (hair diffuse, spec, bump), 3x 1024x1024 (rest diffuse, spec, bump). I think the stock models have higher resolution textures. Slight correction for the Ryoka model's specs: The dummy texture is 16x16 for that, too, not 64x64 as specified in the readme.
Animations are stock Q4 anims.
She sounds like a man. I don't think it's even possible to give a playermodel its own sounds yet.
The normalmap compression is very apparent on her, go into the console and type "image_useNormalCompression 0" and "vid_restart" to get rid of it. There are parameters for the material file that are supposed to disable compression on a texture but Quake 4 ignores them. Doom 3 didn't compress normalmaps on anything above low detail but Quake 4 keeps compressing them even at high detail.
This model may only be redistributed with the readme intact and free of charge. Any modifications to the model must be properly declared in a file included in the archieve (can be appended to this file) and credits must be given properly (that doesn't just mean my name, but yours as well, after all I don't want to get blamed for some third party's modifications to the model).
Selling this model isn't just disrespectful of my work, it's a rip off and, more important, making money of other people's intellectual property (that constitutes copyright infringement).
