Description
Freelancer: HD Edition is a mod that aims to improve every aspect of Freelancer while keeping the look and feel as close to vanilla as possible. It also serves as a customizable all-in-one package for players so they don't have to worry about installing countless patches and mods to create the perfect HD and bug-free install.
This mod was made possible thanks to the assistance of project Freelancer: Nomad Legacy. Huge thanks to the developers for allowing us to use their textures!

N.B. Freelancer: HD Edition does not add additional content on top of Freelancer but rather enhances what the game already has to offer. Although minor gameplay changes were made, Freelancer: HD Edition will always be compatible with vanilla Freelancer. Due to the large file size of many textures used in this mod, some users may experience significantly longer load times during gameplay. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to install Freelancer: HD Edition on an (M.2) SSD.

Just did a full playthrough using this MOD and is absolutely amazing.
If by any chance I want to update from the previous version should I just uninstall and install it again using the new version?
You can have multiple installs of different versions simultaneously if you like. But yeah we do recommend downloading the new version because of the additional improvements that it offers.
Howdy! Just installed v0.6 but BitDefender keeps preventing it. Apparently MultiIntro.dll is infected with Gen:Variant.Lazy.241404. False +?
Hi, yes it's a false positive. The dll's source code can be downloaded here: Forge.the-starport.net. It's completely harmless.
If you still don't trust it, you can simply remove the file and play the mod without it. However, you'll miss out on the new 4th menu intro.

Would like to see a simple HD fix for wide screens that also works with Mod managers as these don't.
Love the effects and the choices and the Bug fixes. But can't get any Mod manager to work with any of these HD Fix's.
It doesn't have to do 4K for me. Just simply work.
I have custom ships, Weapons and senorios, can't enjoy them. The mod managers won't load them due to i guess being a seperate file system that the HD system uses. So the managers don't see the game that the HD mods uses.
And have found no way to redirect the mod managers any of them to the users file that HD uses for FreeLancer.
HDE is built on top of JFLP, so if a mod can't be activated on a JFLP install, it most likely won't activate on an HDE install either.
If you're simply looking for widescreen support, consider installing HUD Shift and JFLP.DLL, both of which can be downloaded here: Adoxa.altervista.org.
Also, you can change the FL directory FLMM looks at by going to Options -> Choose a different Freelancer directory.

Hi, nice work with this mod. I have some NPC's clipping/blinking in out when they move. Not all the time just periodically. Any ideas? Thank you.
Hi, gonna need a bit more info:
1. In which system(s) does this occur?
2. Where exactly in each system does it happen? (e.g. near a base, planet, trade lane, etc.)
3. Which ships associated with which factions show this type of behavior?
4. What are the NPCs doing when they're clipping and blinking in/out on your end? (e.g. docking, flying near bases, shooting, etc.)
Or are you talking about the NPCs you see at bases and during cutscenes?

I tried downloading the HD mod and it worked to a point where the download suddenly stops(it says that the download was failing) for no obvious reasons...
Im german, could it be possible that somehow our internetconnection (ID or so) is the reason for it? And could VPN work arround that?

Hi, that's strange. We have multiple German players on our Discord and none of them ever experienced problems when downloading the mod. You could try selecting a different Mod DB mirror, or download the mod from GitHub: Github.com (download link is at the bottom of the page). If that doesn't help, it could possibly be an antivirus issue.

Bonjour, vous devez vous assurer que l'option "English Text Fixes" dans le programme d'installation est désactivée. Pas sûr de l'écran tronqué. Pourriez-vous en faire une capture d'écran ?

Hi I'm having issues with mission 12. (I have no other mods installed)
When I go to land on planet Toledo, there are no cut scenes and my ship changes into a stock Starflier. (I should have a Sabre)
I'm pretty much stuck in the system and the story wont continue.
Note: I've already checked Freelancer\DATA\UNIVERSE\SYSTEMS\ST01\st01.ini
"nickname = St01_01".
Hi, it sounds like you have the Open Single Player option enabled. If that's not the case, did you start your story playthrough on vanilla FL and installed the HD Edition later?
I did! I wasnt sure this would affect the game.
I installed vanilla FL and was unhappy with the resolution so I installed HD Edition to fix it, The game was running fine until I reached that mission.
Is there any way to fix?

I gave FL save converter a go and that doesn't fix the issue I'm having. Run FLC>Open Savefile>Convert Only>Run game>Play mission
Unless I missed a step I think I've done it correctly.
I tried running the second option and using flcodec but that isnt doing anything either. (I click the .exe and nothing happens, no window or programs open up)
I think my final option is to start a new game, but that will take some time to get me back to that mission again.
Are you sure you didn't enable the Open Single Player option?

First off, this Mod is GREAT and thank you.
I have 2 questions/concerns:
1. When I start I get the error message that "the program cannot start because MSVCP140.dll is missing from the computer".
I followed the suggestion of reinstalling but still get the error message.
For grins I tried just restarting. It does start but gives me a minimized screen with no cursor control to maximize. On one occasion it started OK even after the error message and the play was super! It has not started properly since though.
2. I really like getting to grab some Class 10 Nomad Cannons! I've killed over 100 Nomad Fighters (in and around the "Unknown" Jump Holes) and have not gotten anything (no Blasters or Cannons) to tractor in.
INFO: I use Win 7 on a 17 inch Alienware laptop, with everything properly updated.
I would really like some help/suggestions...please!

1. That error message indicates you need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package for Visual Studio 2015: Learn.microsoft.com. If that doesn't help, you may need to select a different Graphics API in the HDE installer options.
2. You need to be at least level 32 in order to receive Nomad weapon drops, so please make sure your character meets that requirement.

Is there a version for windows XP ?
Current versions are not tested for Windows XP compatibility.
In order to run the mod on XP, you'll have to perform a simple installation, as described here: Github.com. Unfortunately our setup is not supported on XP.

Hello and thank you very much, I have missed FL very much.
Unfortunately I have too low framerate on Windows11. However, if I minimize the game and maximize it again, the game runs smoothly for 2-3 seconds. Then the framerate collapses again.

If that doesn't help, you could try reinstalling the mod and selecting a different Graphics API in the options.
Thanks for the quick help, in that case it was due to the DirectX configuration for the graphics API (vanilla DX8 worked).
Hi, Played this game when it first came out. Like many, couldn't play after Win 8 came into existence.
If I buy the orignal game and install, do I then install these new files on top of the origninal game files? Regret, I'm not too savvy doing downloads so any help would be most welcome. Thank you.
Hi, to install the mod you just need to have an existing Freelancer installation. The mod's installer will guide you through it.
Hey i tried installing this but unfortunately the game does not start. It launches the game the splash screen comes up for a second and then it just quits. Do i need to do anything else besides installing Freelancer and then the HD Mod?
