You should just be able to open up the file in the map editor.
Yes, you can open the map file in editor, but how do you play the map?

INSTALLATION put the file that ends with .fc3map in location My documents-My games-Far Cry 3-User maps
Use Map Editor.exe in Far Cry 3 main installation folder to open it

I DO ALREADY TRY THIS ,.on the map editor of the newest version FARCRY 3
,.BUT there is no option on FARCRY 3 menu TO PLAY custom maps or mods
(Like anyother games for example GHOSTRECON)
SO THERE IS NO WAY TO PLAY THIS REMAKE OF FARCRY 1 AS A REAL GAME,.Just
like to Test a map,..
the only option is to open on the map editor and test map on the game FARCRY 3,( with combination ctrl g)...But you can just use a gun at the time and you can not zoom the sniper rifles (Like in the real game),..and i do try all kind of combinatios of keywords and there is no way to drop a granade,..
Please if sombody knows more about this,..Tell
